Great videos CapnSE!! It really helps to hear and to see what you are doing. I hear the 'flutey' tone. For me, it sounds more similar to the Recorder flutes that we used in school for elementary music than a modern genuine flute. Thanks for sharing. Actually, that one video where you see me moving around looking for a deep target was a practical joke. I was just having some fun that day. I normally let the ground conditions predict my swing speed. If the ground is real trashy (which it generally is in my area), I swing at a snail's pace.

Thank goodness, I thought I had to do the chicken dance to find silver! Thanks for posting the vids, I'm at work now, but look foward to watching them. I think the benefit is not so much in the tone pitch or whatever as settings can affect this, but more in the repeatability of the target and at what angles. All of my iffy signals have turned out to be nails, so I basically stopped digging all iffy signals that had the same iron characteristics. But maybe I have my "iffy" threshold too high? This is the main question I think many of us want answers to, and I look foward to watching the videos to hopefully address that question.

Someone commented that 'dry rubbing the coins' made them cringe... One thought is to carry a small bottle of water with a brush made for golf. The bottle is about 8 inches long and has a brush in the top. It has a belt clip and you fill it with water and the top 'pops' up and down. In the up (open position) water trickles out the end onto the brush. It is made to clean golf clubs, but would be a handy way to clean the coins without dry rubbing them and chancing a scratch. If my description doesn't ring a bell, I can take a picture of the one on my golf bag and post it... Dan.

A big thanks for those videos with the sound. Listened and watched em all and will do so again. I can hear the flutey tone but from a novice standpoint it appears the sound of a wheatie is close enought to a silver that sometimes even you were surprised at what you dug. If I made a mistake like that I'd call it a good day. Thanks again! Jim

I own a Safari but the tones seem the same. I appreciate the sharing, especially your plug technique and the rubber mat. Is your sticker brass? I noticed it didn't get picked up by the probe though in fair proximity.

I noticed it doesn't look like you had a tip on your probe.
In the first video,i noticed you pinpointed the coin with it,Before you dug it.
and that the coin was at or over 8 inches!
Is it an advantage to remove the cap?

I will be posting my video shortly of the 2009 penny I found that was about 1 inch in the soil that I missed so I dug all the way up to my elbow. Used a shovel and everything! My neighbor watches from his back door and drinks beer, he gets where he avoids me on the street.
