Seems like changing the settings can effect the readout or cursor!
it may id just a little differently.
I would like oppinions on this.
i have seen several charts,on ferous and conductive numbers, and several of them are different.
maybe just a little.
so if someone gives a chart,it would also be good to give there exact settings!
Replies are wanted, were all here to learn!

How Gold & Silver Rings come up on the Digital Screen of the SE & Explorer II
Factory Preset...All Metal
I agree; .......... I will make sure next years round of Rings will have the settings. I noticed on the the Explorer Etrac Chart the Silver Peace Dollar was 00-26, where mine came up 00-27, like you said they can fluctuate a little but Knowing your tones & these Numbers is what
Makes the Explorers Series......................Joe

And good work on the Explorer Etrac chart Jim

There are no for sures here. Air testing or even setting targets on the ground will give slighly different reading... heck even machines will give different readings. Yes hotter settings will give different readings. We know a penny will read much like a dime close to the surface.... but a little deeper the readings change. Also many people that provide air test readings for targets reduce their sensitivity to say 10 before waiving targets across the coil... I think Andy mentioned it in his book. From what ive seen, MOST of the charts are almost the same with a few exceptions. Those exceptions could be from bad targets, settings, soil, EMI. List goes on. Ive done air tests on my coins and jewerly ect and just know what my machine gives as a reading. I dont use the digital very often just because in the field those jumping numbers drive me nuts. I use them occassionally on questionable targets.... but all that does is make me dig.

One buddy said nickels were almost always 6 and I said they are almost always 5. We tried an air test on our machines and his said 6 and mine said 5.
Same nickel same type coil. What gives? Which one needs calibration???

NO two machines are created equal.... but like the initial question asked, were your settings the same, did you reduce the sensitivity when air testing, were you in the same location? When i air test i normally use the X1 and reduce the sensitivity. Its a lot like using kentucky windage when shooting.... you just have to know the digits of your machine. My SE normally reads 10-5 for nickels also.... but ive had buffs read 11-6. All in all tho i can just tell by the sound and use the screen to make me scarach my head i think. When you start relying on those darn numbers then you are finding reasons NOT to dig.... i guess my glass is half full because im always looking for a reason to dig.
