Cheap beach detector

pelanj

New member
Hello,I have a Tesoro EuroSabre II, which is not a beach specialist. I would like to get a second beach detector for travelling. The cheapest airplane friendly (less than 60 cm breakup size) travelling detector I know of is the Viking 30. Are there some other machines in this price range?

Thanks for suggestions.

Most here will chime in and say that cheap water detectors are not worth the price. In other words you get what you pay for. We have all been taking one on the chin from the economy. And there are people out there that just can't spend the money on an expensive water detector. There are very few out there to recommend. Maybe the DetectorPro Wader? I have seen these go for good deals on this forum. I personally have the DetectorPro Head Hunter PI. The Unit kicks butt. I think there is still a brand new one for sale in the classifieds for 500.00. A great deal. The AT Pro does OK. Other than those couple I really can't come up with any cheaper ones that I would recommend.

Short answer...none. Best option...set a budget an buy used. Even better...buy new. Excellent starter machine...fisher 1280. Well thats freshwater. Good starter salt machine is up in air...lots to choose from...bhid excal tesoro...etc. Don't buy low end water machine. HH -Joe

Well, I do not need a water tight unit, I am searching for a land machine with specific "beach" mode. I would go for CS4PI, if it would fit into my bag - but it is two part only and too long. HH detectors look nice and for me a Pirate Pro would do it (I think), if I could find a second hand unit here.

The Pirate Pro is a good machine that is inexpensive.....it also is a good land machine in parks and playgrounds.

I would'nt buy a cheap water machine. You will be mad and dissappointed. Rent a good machine and with a little luck you may find enough to recover your rental cost maybe a lot more. If you buy get something you can re-sell if you don't like it. JMHO HH :minelab:

It seems that I can get a Viking 5, that is a simple non motion detector with manual threshold adjust. A turn on and go and beep and dig machine, which has a "cult" status in the UK as a starter beach machine. I will not go out in the water, just close to it. All that for a little less than 100 UK pounds new (mine will be most probably "new old stock"). I will post more into this thread when I have the chance to try it.

A Viking 5 is at home now. I got a super deal, just the electronics and coil without the shaft but with full warranty. First impressions are fine, the detection distance of small coin sized objects is around 8 inches (10 cm) and there is some built in discrimination to ignore small iron pieces. I have made a simple shaft from PVC piping and I will hopefully try it in action next week. I will post some info then.
