Cibola vs VID machines? Video test.

As with my cibola i had it for 2 yrs now and i can tell the difference between ferrus and non ferrus targets by the tone it gives out. If you spend enough time listening to the sound of your targets you'll spend less time digging junk once you get to know them. Of course a good set of headphones help alot also as well as saving battery power. As far as vid machines you can't rely on numbers only as a reference as to what it might be. Sound is what it's all about and thats why I'll never give up my cibola . It's been a great detector to me once i got used to it's language. Like anyone will tell you on this forum you have to spend alot of time with it and become one only then you will know what is truely in the ground grasshopper lol HH good luck

Great video! In this world of digital readouts and multiple tones, running a Tesoro is like a breath of fresh air.

Had a Tesoro Vaquero, sold it to buy an Omega 8000, sold it to buy an Xterra sold it to buy an Etrac , sold it to buy a Vaquero. All of those great machines and I went full circle. I realized that I was finding less treasure but spending more money on equipment. The problem was I was relying on the VID to choose to dig or not. I realized this when I used my etrac and set it to discriminate out iron only and dug everything else regardless of the VID and my treasure finds went way up. Then I had to ask myself why am I swinging (and your supposed to swing the etrac very slow) this overweight (I ended up buying a swingy thingy) overpriced detector if I'm not using features I paid a hefty price for. Luckily I bought all of the equipment used so the expense was mostly recovered and I had a lot of fun learning the other machines, but IMHO I think Tesoro detectors have the best bang for the buck and will find more treasures than detectors costing four times as much.

John

Cant beat the cibola.. I'm in process of waterproofing mine. into a smaller box.

Take my wife, please!

Hey Left4,

Check out the Modifications Forum, in the "Making a Tesoro waterproof" thread, they are doing a Compadre mod, so it would work for a Cibola.

It's hard to beat a Tesoro at any type detecting. And if it breaks, who cares? More and more detectorist are getting smart. Why buy a bunch of heavy battery draining junk, when you can do better with a cute toy detector with one 9v battery that only weighs 2 lbs?Oh that's with a lithium battery. :tesoro:

Left 4 dead-- that is so true, I found the same thing I prefer the basic form of discrimination, it is very efective . great demonstation.

Good video! Thanks for sharing.

In the real world of detecting a lot of good targets are masked. VDI machines work best when you wave targets past the coil by hand.:)

Thanks for the kind replies guys. Tabman I was just looking at your signature, your a collector forsure!!! list of Tesoro detectors.
I will check the mods forum , thanks./

I've become quite efficient at thumbing the disc knob to help ID targets. It's taken some practice, but 90% of the time I'm pretty certain whether the target will be junk or a coin. Even when using a machine with TID I depend heavily on the sound before deciding to dig.

Does the video show typical results with a VDI machine? I have a Cibola and have thought about making the switch after I recover from back surgery, but after seeing the video it makes me wonder.

Like so many others, I've spent a lot of money buying 'the latest and greatest' and am ready to buy the Tesoro Golden uMax. And, like so many other, I had gotten use to hunting via digital readout rather than hunting by sound and it's entirely possible I've left a lot of good targets in the ground as a result. An older fella once told me to utilize the 'KISS' (keep it simple stupid) method and it makes a lot of sense.

Well Rob I can say for sure if they have a screen and its not just one type of conductive material in the ground it will bounce all over the display , it's up to the user to determine "dig or not to dig". That is the question. If you just go by sound and not by screen or numbers you will certainly find more goodies. And more baddies too. And hey I'm pondering an at pro right now or a golden? Just would be nice to have that screen in a nice manicured yard that I was given permission to hunt, as not to destroy with a ton of holes, that dry out if your not carefull and fill back with water.....in the dry parts of the summer. Mike

I use a Vaquero and an F2. I mostly dig by the tones, but if you learn your machine you will find the good stuff, whether you have a display or not. I like my Vaquero. One thing I really like though, is no-motion pinpoint & a digital depth gauge. It helps alot when you can pinpoint and stick the Lesche in 6" and not have to guess like a beep & dig machine. Having used both back to back, I can say the F2 has a much better pinpoint feature and really helps to narrow down the target. They both have their place

To me, VID would be short for Video.

I believe the term you want is VDI. We have TID, for Target ID, and that refers to an icon or typical target most USA Coin Hunters encounter, such as Iron, Foil, Nickel, Pull Tab, Screw Cap, Zinc 1
