City Park Hunt

Today I hunted a park located in the middle of a city. I figured the park had to be as old as the city. When I got there the first thing I noticed was a lot of big, old trees with exposed gnarly roots. To me that means no fill dirt...original ground! :clapping: My first find was a Wheaty. Good sign. Man, did the finds start coming. I ended the hunt with 8 Mercury dimes, 12 Wheat cents, two tokens, newer coins and the usual garbage. I didn't even come close to hunting the whole park. Looks like new stomping grounds for me for a while. Here's a video of the hunt: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dy3WGo1QHeE

Dang - it's froze over here. I woke up this morning to 23*, and that's not celcius.

Sounds like you're gonna need some help covering that big old park of yours.

Congrats on a big day.

Dan - I really enjoyed this video. What a feeling to pull 8 Mercs in one day. Congratulations!

WOW DAN, what a great hunt! I would drive all day to hunt a spot like that! I had a spot giving me some silver but "no mas". I am still waiting for rain here out west, yeah, mid November and not a drop. I will be watching for your next hunts at "the park".:detecting:

Terrywl, I too had local spots that gave up some silver. When the well began to run dry I bought the 15x12 sef butterfly coil to wring a few more good finds from those spots. It did pay off but hunting was still pretty tough. That's why I got on the computer the evening before the hunt to do some research. That's how I found that spot. I knew if it hadn't been hunted hard then it had to have some silver left. After that first hunt...I don't think that park has ever seen a Minelab. Those silver dimes were sitting ducks for my E-trac. Just too easy. Should be more good finds there. That park is huge and I only hunted a small of it.

Dan, how exciting for you! I hunt a local park that goes back to the 1880's in one form or another, and have found one silver Washington in the trash there. I keep pecking away though and now am up to 14 silver coins with my ET, which is more than I ever found with other machines. By 13! It is so dry here that the ground is like concrete. I have hit a few signals that I had to walk away from, as even going down 6" just was not possible. Chisel and hammer the ground for several minutes just to remove a teaspoon of soil. Not fun, which is the whole reason to be out ,right? I will try my 15" WOT when conditions improve this winter. So, good luck, HH and keep us posted! Terry

Hope you get rain soon.

Great day Dan - Minelab really "tuned" up that E-Trac for you.............

Just curious what disc pattern you run?

Congrats on the huge silver find! I don't think I have ever done that well on silvers.

That sure is a nice haul of silver coins !

Dan,
Congrats on a great hunt and all that silver! Those hunts and sites like that are what keeps us all going. Thanks for sharing your story and your video! All your videos are outstanding. I pln to keep watching them over and over again all winter while we're snowed in.

Thanks, Milco. I plan on going back to that site this Sunday and Monday. Hopefully I'll find more silver. I'll be watching metal detecting videos to get through the winter months too! Take Care. Dan

Dan,
Great hunt and awesome videos!!! Just purchased and E-Trac, although I have been a Minelab owner for a while (GP Extreme (nuggets) and Explorer SE). Just wondering if you would mind sharing your etrac settings for city park hunts. I am hunting a similar area (however, lots of modern trash on the surface). Just wondering if you could get me started on some custom settings. I took it out for a few hours the first day I had it and had some decent success with modern coins using the "coin mode" with no modifications. Took a little getting used to the new screen since I had been using the SE.

Thanks in advance.....and keep cranking out the awesome videos!!!! They are addictive!!!!!!

Thanks, Robert! I also enjoy watching detecting videos. They motivate me to get out there and hunt. Making my videos is a way of giving back. My settings are mostly default:

I hunt in the Coin mode. My discrimination pattern is the default one with silver dollars notched in.

Here are my settings:

Multi Tones
Conduct Sounds
Variability 30
Limits 30
Threshold Pitch 21
Deep On
Fast Off
Ground Difficult
Pinpoint Normal
Trash Density High
Response Normal

I hunt with Auto +3 Sensitivity most of the time. Sometimes I like to hunt in Manual if there is not too much falsing. I can deal with quick chirps. However I don't like it when I get a lot of falsing and it sounds like good signals instead of little chirps. Then I switch to Auto +3.

Everything else is factory setting.

Happy Hunting!
