Civil War Location Finds...Part II

Hi All,
Hit the same area again today. My ear seems to be getting a hang of the soil. The Safari is definitely struggling with the Ga. red clay. Slowed down a bit and nailed 2 quick buttons a dropped bullet and a fired bullet. Tons more nails and a couple of IDK's. These are my first CW buttons. We don't get this stuff down in the Tampa Bay area where I am from, so any CW finds are a special treat. The numbers were all over the place. From - to +. The buttons and bullets came in like Iron. When I pin pointed them I would get a bump up from about 18 to 32. The nails were -10 and 40. Bullet air tested at 32. Most were about 4-6 inches.

Bunky, great hunt there. Are you further able to id the buttons,especially the right one ? Looks like you're hunting in relic or all-metal mode.

Ken...I think there are your run of the mill Union buttons. I think the "I" or "A" letters are only on the larger buttons. One button has strips on the shield. I just got back in the country so I will try to clean them a bit more. I need to work on my electrolysis tank for the buckle, it seems to not be working. I was mainly hunting in "all metal" but would go to "jewelry" to hear it in a conductivity mode. It was tough, that is why I had so many nails. I ws starting to get the hang of it but the way things were sounding I had to dig.
KinTn...I was using the stock 11 inch coil. May try my 6x8 sef next week.

Bunky, run of the mill or not, they're still great recoveries,since as far as I recall,we didn't have any official battles or skirmishes here in NJ during the CW. If I'm wrong, please let me know ! You got that right, corroded nails often tid as 39 for me too, and sound sweet in coin, coin/jewelry modes,so I'm digging 'em,too.

Another type III Williams and the piece to the left of it in the photo is the hardened disk and pin that was inserted in the base.

Great finds, keep rescuing those relics.

Thanks again Tom, I'll keep trying this spot. Found another William's Cleaner bottom pin the other day, also a Peters referee shotgun shell brass. Late 1800's early 1900's.
