Cleaning Pro Coil

Yesterday I spent some time cleaning up my E-Trac, I usually keep it pretty clean but I decided to remove coil cover and clean under it. I thought I would find some dust and dirt, man I was suprised by the matted blades of dry grass and dirt under it. This is the first time I have cleaned under since I got it mid June. If you have not done so it probably is a good time to do it.

How often do most of you clean under the cover?

I cleaned mine about 4 times in 300 hours Tony. I was always amazed at how well the coil cover snapped back into place on the pro-coil....at least on mine it does. I have a spare on order just to have in case. I think if you lived in a place where mineralization was a problem and were jumping around from site to site, cleaning more often might be in order.

i have been to some pretty clayey fields lately so this is something i have to do on returning home i cant believe how much it does clog up does anybody put the coil in shallow water or do you just use a cloth i dont get any of the wires wet and have read somewhere that keeping upright is good if coil gets damp or wet as the writer had had a problem with water travelling up the inner tube so i thought it was a pretty sensible suggestion thought i would share this piece of information but have no idea how relative it is?????????????

I just take the coil cover off and run the coil under the deep sink faucet or outside hydrant and lean it against the counter where I store it and let it dry with coil cover off. In the one video where I detect right next to the river, I have taken the cover off and just dunked it in the river and clean it that way.

Your right. You do not want to lift the coil higher than the controller until your sure its dry.

I pull the cover off and clean things up after every hunt because I've found if I don't, it becomes much more difficult to remove the cover due to the extra amount of collected debris that seems to want to cement things together. It just takes a couple of minutes to wipe things down before putting the detector back in the truck.

I clean my coil and remove the cover after every time I hunt. I clean my coil with a 409 type product and then put an Armorall type product on the coil and coil cover. Seems to slide on the grass real easy. I've got in the habit of cleaning all my equipment after every hunt, it just doesn't feel right to start a hunt with dirty gear. I hunt about 10-12 times a month, when the evenings are long.
