Coil cable sheathing replacement

Tommy Boy

Active member
I recently bought a Minelab Eureka Gold locally at a great price.

The detector looks like it is new, but when I got it home and started cleaning it, the coil cable sheathing was peeling off the wires from end to end. I removed all of the bad sheathing.

The coil seems to be working ok, what is a good way to replace the sheathing around the cables

Thanks

Tom

If you have the skills, you can replace the cable. If not, you can tape it up, or use heat shrink tubing, but that will not guarantee a waterproof sheath. And there is an outfit that will replace the cable, but I don't know what the charge is.

Thanks for the reply, do you have contact info on the person that can replace the cable

If anyone knows if the Sovereign coils work on the Eureka gold, I have a bunch to sell. They are big coils, Detech 12" & SEF 15".
Plus some misc. coils.

I did a google search for 'metal detector coil cable repair', and found the place that does replace the cable. It's in Ukraine.

Here's a Youtube vid on the way I have done this.

If you think you can't do it yourself, I can do it. You will have to pay for shipping both ways, and maybe for a replacement cable, if I can't locate one from my work. There are others that can do it as well.

@Donna(NJ)- The coils are not interchangeable due to the manner in which each machine operates. The Eureka uses 3 different frequencies, one at a time, while the Sovereign uses BBS. ** I have been looking for a Sovereign coil, mainly an 8-inch Tornado or SunRay. Would you happen to have one, at a good price or for trade for other machines?

This was a COMMON PROBLEM WITH FISHER COILS from that ERA...
Here's what I did just last week. My Fisher ID EDGE coils except my 6" coil, and my Coinstrike coil the sheathing has all peeled off and Deteriorated. These coils are like brand new and
Never used in the Field by me. I took 1/4" automotive wire protector jacketing and went from connector to the end of the stress relief closest to coil and then TAPED closed every 6 inches apart the whole length of new wire wrap. WORKED OUT WELL. These coils Sat unused for years. They also Fit the COINSTRIKE which is great. Can't use Coinstrike coils on the ID Edge
but you can use the ID Edge coils on the Coinstrike. I also own a MINT COINSTRIKE so all is good with these machines now. Hope this HELPS!!! The Coinstrike is a machine that you
never heard much of, even these days the word Coinstrike is pretty Obsolete in the World of Metal Detecting. Enough Rambling and Wish everyone the best!!!

Excalibur cable replacement ..very much like any without shielded cable.. Ive fixed about 30 coils cables on excals over the years. The cable used out last most machines.
Where as the stock cables are terrible.
