Coil issue

My Etrac has been giving a lot of falsing signals lately. I have been trying several different things to try and resolve the issue. My silver count has fallen off and I could not get any depth for the last few hunts. Today my detector shut off 3 times. I was thinking I was going to have to send it in for repairs. But when my machine quit while I was talking with a neighbor of the property I was hunting I knew all that moved was the coil... Sure enough my 8X6 has a short in the wire between the shaft and coil. I could pivot the coil and get a signal and then after moving it a few times the detector shut off. I just changed back to my original coil until I can get a replacement or repair the 8X6.
My question is concerning the connector wire at the coil. The wire has a threaded nut holding the wire in place. Does anyone know if I can order just a replacement wire or should I just order a new coil.
I did not know a short in the coil wire would shut the detector down but I am glad it did and prevent damaging the computer!

Your coil is toast.
Turn the nut at the coil and most likely the cord will just break free leaving the wires embedded in the epoxy that fills the coil. My 6 x 8 did the same thing two months after the warranty expired even though the usage it saw was very little.
If you are going to replace it give the 5x10s from NEL and Detech some consideration first. I preferred them to the 6x8. I think the Detech has lengthened their warranty to two years to match the NEL warranty but I would verify that. I felt both the Sharpshooter and the 5x10 WSS separated every bit as well as the 6x8 , got the same or better depth and both cover a little more ground.

Thanks for the info! I was hoping it was possible just to replace the wire! I really liked the SEF, I have had really good success with it! I will look at the other options and replace this one. Hope to have the Expectations of finding silver again soon! The Etrac and SEF have been an amazing combination!
