Coil Not 11 Inches

The adverstised coild size is 11 inches on the Equinox. I measured it and it is only 10.5 at its highest point. Is this a thing like 2by4s are not really 2in by 4in?

Ha, and Subway was sued because the foot long subs weren't 12 inches...I think the plaintiff won..

Doesn't every man round up:rolleyes:

That's from flat end to flat end of this coil. The greater majority of it is 11 inches for it's diameter.

ML has a problem with that .....remember the 8" ...its only 7 1/4. Sooo between the Xcal and CTX...they trying to tell us something?

David, yes it is 11in across but I thought on a DD coil the width didn't really matter. The important measurement would be the long hot spot between the Ds...no?

10.5" on a tiny portion of the coil. Dang am I glad I haven't bought one yet!

The diameter of the transmit and receive windings will dictate depth more so than the length. And the longer the coil the worse the target separation is, so being less long is actually a good thing.

Nenad,

Thanks for the information.:thumbup:

I've learned something new from what you have told us.

Makes sense...thanks! But should they still say it's 11 in long?

@Charlives,
They say it's an "11-inch Double-D Smart coil".
There's no mention of length.
I just measured mine, and it is EXACTLY 11" wide, without the skidplate.
So, it looks like they're being completely honest, to me.

And nenadgbeepin is correct in that the width of the DD coil has far more to do with depth than the length.
The extra length just gets you extra coverage. (For the most part.)
