does anyone have any information on patterns from caches...i've recently found 3 hoards...i know there is more...i left the holes open...i saw pictures of some patterns in a book somewhere but cannot locate it....any help would be greatly appreciated...thanks ginger

You mean E-Trac pattern for a cache? You have to open it up and dig everything since there is no telling what type of container it could be buried in.

Ginger,

I haven't seen any books that describe patterns in which people have buried money; however, you may want to try this idea and see what patterns, if any, the coins are arranged in.

If you have access to a GPS unit go to the site and use the GPS unit to record every location (latitude & longitude - degrees, minutes, seconds to the smallest decimal the unit reads) where a coin was found. If you remember what was found at each location I'd make a note of that also. You can then take a piece of gridded paper and lay out the locations on the paper to see if a pattern exists (this would give you what amounts to an areal view). Patterns are sometimes difficult to determine at ground level at the site. I would then use the locations and compare them to a USGS topo map and/or Goggle Earth.

Good luck and let us know what you find. Ag

that sounds like a good idea...so far we have put markers at one place and left the holes open at two others...theres definatley a pattern...i'm just trying to figure out where the rest of the hoard will be...i googled cache patterns and read about this hunter who said it was very important to figure them out...and he is right...but he just talks about 2 patterns...oval and rhomboid...i was just looking for the easy way out...lol..we are going to start off by mowing both fields...huge job...we'll take some pics...and i'll let you know how we make out....thanks for getting back to me...ginger
