Coin TID numbers

Hey All

Bought a new Safari 3 weeks ago and I'm pretty happy with it. Just getting back into the swing of things (no pun intended) after 25 years so these new machines are quit different. I did a bunch of coin tests yesterday and though it might be of some interest to some people. My settings where coin / jewelry /auto/ high trash and relic / 16 sensitivity / low trash. I'm mostly a coin hunter and like the relic mode. In the 5 times I've been out I've hunted a fair ground that was established in 1818. Many clad coins found, one 44 merc dime and a silver pin. The TID are as follow on the coin test.

Indian Head 35
Pennies 34-37
Wheats 32-34
large One Cent 34
Flying eagle 24-26 mainly 26
V / War/ Shield / Clad nickels all 15
Ros Clad 37
Ros Silver 38
Merc 38
Clad Quarter 38
Wash Silver Quarter 38
Liberty/ Ben / Kennedy Half all 36
Morgan Dollar 34
Peace Dollar 33
Columbus 38

Gold Charm 4-7 mainly 7
18k white gold ring 14
Silver chain 33

14k chain that was check by a jeweler NO signal what so ever, even on all metals (weird)

For my machine when using Relic(f mode) the TID numbers seem to be the most consistent.

Can anyone comment on the Morgan and Peace dollar being so low? Is this what you all experience?

for the most part, I agree/and see your #'s in my area..... but your nickle and copper cents TID's differ from mine....... ie: copper cents...36-37.... zincs 35 or could be a screw cap too.... wheats, injuns 34or36..usually 36......nickles are always 13-14 rarely 15 unless on the surface..

Your flying eagle cent at 26 baffles me????? should be in the 34-36 reading along with the wheats and injuns...

Hunter- Appreciate you taking the time to list your stats. Wondering if they'll read the same in low trash,which the book indicates may give a "truer" reading, differing by perhaps a number here or there. My central Jersey shore/soil areas tend to return stats more in line with Mark's comments.

Hey All

Looking at my notes, I made a mistake on the wheat pennies. I check about 50 different wheat pennies and they where mostly 36. Some 34 and yes a couple 37. I check two modes Coin / Jewelry (Factory settings) and Relic, sensitivity at 16 and low trash.

I checked the flying eagle again and in coin/jewelry 24-26 in relic a solid 26 ( yes this is baffling)

Also when in low trash it seems to hit a solid number and doesn't change.

Hey there, Yes, you are right about the silver dollars coming up 34 and 33. It is not logical or good that they come up like pennies but it is the sad truth. I tested mine a million times and it is the same for most of us. However, listen to the tone, it may be a HIGH 34 as opposed to a lower sound like the pennies. If you EVER hear a high note mid thirties dig it! All my large cents come up as high tones around 34. Hope this helps. Good luck.

I do admit those some of those high tones at 36 seem to be crushed cans or can-slaw

Hello,

I think the wide variety of the tone I.D. numbers stems from the slow recovery speed. The Quattro must fully recover to give an accurate I.D. number. But it just goes back to the old saying.....Just dig it !!
