Cold morning start got heated up

Got out Saturday for a 5 hour hunt with xGregx to a place we call Area Dirty-1.

Boy did the morning start out cold. It was 29 degrees when we exited the truck and the frost started forming on the coil almost instantly, it was that cold.

It seemed like it took forever for it to warm up and about as long for the targets to appear.

We had hunted this particular piece of property last year a couple of times and pulled some silver here and there, so we knew it still would produce.

I ended up with the '37 buffalo Nickle being the first coin and probably is my best looking dug nickle, as it doesn't have that red coloring like some of the others I've dug in the past.
Got a '51 and '54 Rosie, a '41 Wheat and a 191? Wheat, plus some clad and the usual junk that I didn't include in the photo.

It was a slow going day, but was nice to get out and hunt.

Hope everyone got to play in the dirt this past weekend and hope to see your finds.

Thanks for looking
DJH

Silver is always fun but them Buffalos and Indians on the nickle are just cool designs and take a little more skill to find as well.

I agree with you fully on the design of the Buffalo Nickle, but finding nickles seems to come easy to me for some reason. I have gotten punked by some of the broken pop tabs every now and then.

Thanks for looking

Thanks for the pictures and story DJH! Congratulations on the finds. Glad you warmed up too!

It may have been a cold start, but it looks like it was a cool hunt. :heh: Congrats

Thx,

Do you remember what signal you dug for that Buffalo?

I've found several modern nickels at 12-14. I assume the Buffalo would read about the same?

If memory serves me correctly I had three numbers that the signal was bouncing around in. 12-13, 12-14, 12-15, with 12-13 being the most dominant.
I think the soil condition played a big part in that as it was a gravel/sand type mix and there was no other target in the area. Also being that the ground was of that type of mix, I am thinking that the nickle was close to being on edge giving the erratic reading.
Hope this helps you, but if you're digging nickles you should have no trouble finding the buffalo's.

Real nice coins ! :clapping:

Nice Finds! Congratulations!
