Mike from MI and I (maybe others) have mentioned Geocaching before. Using a GPS can come in handy in our hobby to find or in some cases mark the location of found treasures or locations.
Researching of Geocaching sites sometimes leads to old ghost towns, logging camps, mines, etc.
I just got an eye opener as I went to Geocaching.com and got an aerial view of geocaches in my area: 143 of them!

Not all of these will lead me to productive detecting sites (a few are in cemetaries) and some where very few people ever go...but to find just one place worth checking out would make it worthwhile...like this place:

Foundations in an old town long gone. (Casey loves geocaching as long as there are no bugs or bears around...
like that is a reality up here
Even if nothing in the line of detecting sites is found, there is always - beauty!

(Though even this place has potential...if I can just remember how to get back there...see a GPS could have marked the spot for me. Didn't have it with me at the time this picture was taken)
Or find something amusing like this Bowling Jesus...

I know He isn't bowling - "He's got the whole world in His hands (plural not hand)
God has a sense of humor.
So you can see combining hobbies can be useful in our detecting hobby as well. HH
