Comment & Question for Ray-Mo.

D&P-OR

Well-known member
Ray-----I remember when the requests went out for an Etrac Forum and then eventually this Forum was started up.---I was one of the first to "come aboard" & there were a few of us back then but it grew quickly.-----Look at it now---it looks to me like it (Etrac Forum) is a HUGE success!---As you know, there were some that didn't think it should think be "split off" from the other Minelab Forum but with the comeing (and growing) of the Etrac crowd, it was as necessary back then as it is now.---I'd just like to thank Guv (again) for getting this forum started in the first place.-----Also, I'd like to compliment you on the job you are doing as moderator here since you took over that position.----You have injected a lot of your knowledge into the discussions here & at the same time put some humor into things from time to time.----IMO, if a site doesn't have a little occasional humor, it becomes a "dried up site".--------OK, that's my comment(s), I'll get off my soap box & ask my question now.--------Would it be feasible to start up a Etrac Classroom Forum?--Would Guv go for it--huh Guv??---Seems like with all the newcomers & their MANY questions here, an Etrac classroom would be well served (get it started right down there with the rest of the classrooms).-------Just a few lines from an old Minelab user & an old timer in the hobby.--Whatcha think?? :) --------Del

Thanks for the kind words D&P-OR .I think you have a valid question and will present it to the Guv.But first it would be nice to get some input from fellow E-Trac owners and those considering the E-Trac.So what do you folks think? Is it time for an E=Trac classroom forum seperate from our main forum,Thanks Ray.

My 2 cents... I was an XTerra 70 guy for 18 moinths before coming over to the E-Trac last October... and the XT70 Forum helped me a ton... BarnicleBill and Digger and the bomb... They do what you are seeking in one post that is a sticky... Its their FAQ... It includes

Code of Ethics
Metal Detecting Basics
Understanding the X-Terra
Specifics for the 30, 50 and 70 series...
Target ID's (TID)
Size Matters - Coil Information
Field Tests
Saltwater Information
Target Properties
Prospecting
Ground Balancing
Many many links
Imbedded Video's

See it here: http://www.findmall.com/read.php?55,496344

I can support a new forum, but wouldn't it be easier to just pin a FAQ up top and link / embed off of it?

Simply put..The machine is hard to grasp for a lot of us... Presets work fine..but enhanced settings make it a better than average detector.. A room to teach by those that understand would be a big factor for many new users, and some of us that "STILL do not get it"...........ie: Ferrous tones/Conduct tones settings..and why............. Fast on Deep on/or off.............why................... Auto versus Manual ...Why............How to get good targets in iron...

To many it's simple..to others who have detected for years using different tech it's a mystery, and unless some things are put in common English..it will remain so... Also I think some will decide knowing up front what can, can't, and how much effort will decide to move on and buy more for their tastes..A Service from the forum parsay......... Lets be honest As Great as the ETrac is.It's not for everyone..But look on the other side..It can be the best detector if it's presented right and help is given to understand the proper operation....... Just my take fine Sir........ Good Idea Del........

Really appreciate all the long hours and hard work it took to create and maintain this forum !
I've sure have learned a lot about my E-Trac from the posts here - but with all the brand new and semi-expierienced ET user's joining Findmall - a Classroom sounds like a great idea !

Good Hunting ! --- Mark

Those were nice things to say Del, but please dont give Ray such a big head, I have to hunt with him on Thursday:rofl:

It does sound like a great idea but I can see one flaw.......who gets to teach in this classroom?

Many people have very good intentions to help others but how do we know if the information is sound?

Everyone has different ideas on how things work....me especially!!!

If people have differing views on the same subject matter......it then becomes a discussion. If it does, it may as well be posted on the forum.

Just a thought....

Hey Doc---I forgot that y'all are Ray's huntin pardner!!!----You may have to put that Thursday hunt off till later!------OH MAN---GOTTA have some fun in this life!----Sure glad I got you guys as my friends, we may be a bunch of "crackers" but ain't we havein a blast!!!!!---BEST HOBBY IN THE WORLD!!! ---------Del

Gaz------Those are just EXCELLENT points you made!----I KNEW they would come up, in fact I was just waiting for them.----I hope some can give some meaningful input in this area as these are very valid observations/questions that you stated. --------Del

there you go telling my secret hunting techniques again Ray. If you ever tell me any of yours, I just may blurt it out here for all to learn by. Then the E-trac sales would really jump.

I think we were thinking you would Gaz...but you're right. I think you should just come on over here and stop in each state and personally hunt with all!!! Wouldn't that be a treat!!!

NebTrac

.....you guys would be better off coming over to the UK Neb!!!!

Thing is, in all fairness, we do hunt slightly differently to you guys. However, I think the way I have my ETrac set up is very much universal.

Not everyone agrees with me though Neb. I don't mind being challenged but it has to be constructive.

Many people have challenged the way I do things saying their way is better, but provide no explanation or theory.
