Compared E-Trac vs SE...then Pro coil vs 10 x 12 SEF coil. Hmmmmm:surprised:

At the risk of beating a dead horse, but I think this is very meaningful...

I was a little surprised to see you set it to manual....

A big part of the Manual/Auto sensitivity debate is hard to argue because on the earlier models we didn't know exactly where the sensitivity was being set in Auto. There are a couple of tests that one can run to get a rough idea, but it is pretty hard to know what is happening at any given point in time.

So when you switched to manual 24 and could run stable what was the Etrac trying to set the sensitivity to in Auto +3? Do you remember? I'm assuming if you were getting no depth it was a pretty small number.

My understanding is that the internal program for setting sensitivity is pretty much the same as the earlier Explorers. They are just displaying the Auto number real time and gave users the option to bump it up some from what the Etrac thinks is ideal.

Next time you are out swinging the Etrac, I would be curious to see what it sets the sensitivity to near power lines, and also away from power lines but where there is alot of trash in the ground. Rick(ND) did a little of this before freeze up. And maybe sometime way out in a plowed field away from power lines and trash. And maybe how much and how quickly it will vary the setting as you spend the day detecting.

Hey Bryce, I weighed both the pro coil and the 10x12 with their bottom covers: pro coil= 1lb,3.75oz and the 10x12=1lb,10oz. The cover for the 10x12= 3.75ozs. I have take the cover off of my 10x12 making it within 2.50 ozs. It makes a big big difference to my bad shoulder. EddieB

Chris...you know me:cool:...I never pay much attention to what a manual or graph tells me I should be running at.
I piddle until I find a group of settings that finds me stuff...regardless if the machine graphs tell me my sensitivity is double what it should be:smoke:

I don't like the screen on the E-Trac but that's ok cause' I didn't need it to find stuff. I just don't prefer flashing numbers...especially since at depths of 9" or more...the numbers were pretty much no help to me. If I would have been looking at the numbers for help over the deepies I wouldn't have dug a single one of them. The ferrous numbers on the 11" deep quarter were 5, 6, 7,...etc...and the conduct numbers anywhere from 25, 26. 30??? The sweet "dig me" sound was there though...just like I get on my SE.
I do remember the manual said with high sensitivity...a loss of ID accuracy would be noticed if I remember correctly.
I didn't pay much attention to anything on the screen and hunted strictly by sound..which was a good thing because by the 2nd hour the whole screen was covered with snow anyway:bouncy:

The first couplle of hours though to be honest..I was running semi auto +3 and couldn't get anything past 7". I did watch the fancy little bars and they always showed the sensitivity bar on the right was about 25% smaller than the one on the left. What did I do?....knocked my sensitivity down a couple of notches like the bars told me. What happened next?...absoluteluy nothing:crylol: I didn't find squat past 6"

What did I do next?...well you know me:)...I completely ignored what the sensitivity bars were telling me to do...and switched over to manual 24 where the machine told me I wasn't supposed to be running at...and that I wasn't going to find anything at because it would be running too hot.:smoke:

Results?...well...I found 3 deep coins right where I had just been over in semi auto.:super:

Hey Buddy!!

You sure know how to create interesting and very informative threads!!

I highly regard your opinions/observations of your field tests.

You're well admired on all the forums for your integrity and knowledge of this awesome hobby!! Oh yeah, and for your old/deep treasures. :detecting:

I've never used the 10x12, so I can't contribute my observations with this coil. I'm sure it is a killer coil in the "right hands". :yo:

My SE is crying to pick it up and swing it, but my body is telling me to hold off for just a little while longer.

Nice Job, Bryce!! Great post!!

Maybe by the time the ground is done freezing then re-freezing...you'll be able to swing a little.

Let yourself recupe over the next couple of months and maybe things will pan out.

Take care bro

Your welcome Robin.

Now it's time for some simple relaxing hunt time with NO comparin'

Good luck with your detector choosin'. You are very picky...just like I am...and you have to be because of the money we're shellin' out:super:

Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh..thanks Bryce.... I will keep your secret.
