Competition Sand Hunts

Hi all, sometimes my club will put on seeded competition sand hunts for club members and guests. Now all the sand hunts are near fresh water lakes. Coins are planted just barely under the sand(invisible) maybe 1-2" max. What would be ideal settings on the Deus for a competition sand hunt. For both dry and damp sand?

Thx..

deus fast. lower tx to 1, lower react to 2, lower sens to 86. turn your pinpointer on and leave it on til youre done

You can really knock the sensitivity down. You don't need it for the coins and it helps cut down on the other machines giving you fits. Keep moving and if you hit a detector that messes with your sounds move away quickly. There is a decent amount of area to cover and speed is super important. It is amazing how quickly 30 or 40 guys with detectors can wipe a place out. Don't worry about looking at your finds, gather them, stash them and keep moving.

What they said...
And a sand scoop!!!

Thx., martygene, this is exactly what I was asking for. I haven't yet uploaded the new firmware yet, is that why you mentioned to leave the pin pointer on?

Cometguy & HuntinDog- I've done lots of sand competitions before, but never with a Deus detector. I was primarily asking for settings on the Deus, not what do I do in a sand hunt..lol..

Since you have done lots of sand competitions before you probably already know this tip but will throw it out for others. If sand is not packed rock hard, I've found that I can grab a coin quicker with my bare hand & forget about using the sand scoop.

I use the Sifter program on beaches, i have tried other programs and this one will pick out quarters at 6 to 8 " deep. If around other detectors lower your frequency a little.

Thx., for that tip Sataro, but I will always use a sand scoop because there have been drug needles found in sand and you just never know and it only takes one prick.

Also good tip on the Sifter program Digger 45, I will have to try that!
