Consideration of others.......................................I post this after some deliberation...............

We all make mistakes, and as the Bible says, who wants to cast the first stone? I enjoy this web-site and I want to say I appreciate those who pay for it, as they do. You can call them sponsers or whatever. I know they also are trying to sell products and thats o-k too. It is UNDERSTOOD. But I also know that many times people also give, just to be giving, whether it time or money or just great advice. I thank you all for it. I also want it known that I am a "poor schlep" and as one, I sometimes grab my second hand Explorer and run out into my back yard and hunt it for the 100th time, just because as a "poor schlep" it sometimes is all I have. But what is most important to me is THE POSSIBILITY that there might be one more coin out there that I missed. That would make about 20 coins so far, and nothing like the 675 coins someone said they found. I want to say thank you to Minelab, and to there techs and to there families who support them and everybody else who was involved in making this hobby so much fun. I dug a U.S. belt buckle once and ran down a hill, out into the road and jumped up and down and tried to high-5 a trucker who thought I was crazy since he was doing about 50 miles an hour, but what a memory and you folks in this industry made it possible. And also for the number of times I have been so depressed for what ever reason and I would pick up these so called "blunder of a machines" and just walked outside and turned it on and just forgot my problem of depression. You guys indirectly have probably saved my life on one or two occasions over the years and I just realized it, so again I say thank you. If you don't think you make a difference in peoples lives may be its time to write a metal detector version of "Its a wonderful Life" You guys give so many the gift of FUN and happiness and to that I say thank you. Please forgive some of us for what we say and to really forgive those who hide behind statements such as "I don't want to offend anyone" If they did not want to they would not have said it, now would they. It may be that they have some problems of there own we are not aware of. Bear one anothers burdens. Also apologies to the folks at Bounty Hunter for certain remarks made and to the suckers who bought the e-trac knowing its not an explorer. Again read above about burdens........... Good night all................

Great view of what this whole HOBBY is all about. Too often lately (last few years) the posts seem to be focused on who has the newest toy, how much one spent and what they got with the deal, what detector is an over priced piece of junk, and mostly, how much they are finding in terms of $$$.

To me, some of my best hunts have been where I found nothing . . . . sound crazy?

Well, I go out for the thrill of the hunt, the ability to leave problems or issues weighing on me at home and to enjoy good company on many occasions. Being able to escape even without actually finding anything at times has been a real benefit over the years. I know from reading some posts that I am not alone.

We seem to focus on the negative more often and then get drawn into arguments that serve absolutely no purpose. I have been flamed more than once on the forums and in PM's for info that I have posted with no ulterior motive. Spending more time exchanging useful information and tips the way many of us did years ago would serve the entire community far better than the amount of time spent writing dissertations on "How I was taken by the big bad manufacturer" or some other similar rant.

I will close with the picture below . . . . . taken when I took my daughter on a weekend end treasure hunt to do some water hunting and diving a month ago . . . she got certified 2 years ago and is now my diving partner. Did we strike it rich? Hardly . . . but spending a few days without a pager wading in a clear lake with the mist swirling across it at day break was as the MasterCard ad say "PRICELESS"

I hope we can all remember why we do this . . . . . . to relax and have fun! Do you think the guys that have $1,000's worth of fishing gear or golf equipment do it for the money? Enjoy your time in the field, post the positive results and take a deep breath . . .

Andy,

When's your book coming out? I'm looking forward to it.

You know Andy, you're right about the timeless memories that this hobby can give us rather than the dollar value of what we found ( or didn't find ). I've personally driven 150-200 miles round trip before on a Saturday morning when I could have been sleeping, only to find about $3.50 in dirty unusable change. Did I do it for the cash? Uhh..no, but I DID do it so I could hang out with the guys and flip them some crap about how I was gonna kick their butts in silver today and maybe, just maybe, get lucky enough to pull something out of the ground that would give me bragging rights for once. Sometimes it ain't winning the race that matters, it's running the race that counts....just my two cents...

To get my daughter, wife or son to detect with me I would have to make promises of expensive gifts
coming their way :lol::biggrin:.

I know what you mean Andy, My two Sons and I enjoyed the Ft. Donelson Relic Hunt this past weekend. They found a lot more than I did but, I was having too much fun watching them dig all their great relics to even worry about what I was finding. It was a great weekend all around. HH...Jesse.

Right on the mark Andy. And thats with anything. With the internet, info, communcation is fast and I think sometimes people talk, type before they think, lol.
Like Steve(MS), I cant get my family interested in this hobby. My dad did it years ago and I went with him numerous times, I was to busy Deer Hunting and fishing in those days, now hes gone but I still have the good memories of the ride, the trip, the hunt,,,not what we found.
Theres so much reward in just the hunt for a place to hunt,,the trip to get to your goal, and then to share that with friends, family is icing on the cake. And making new friends along the way.
I arrived at a point in my life where I had no outside interest, I decided I was gonna do this, and everyone ,family, old hunting/fishing buddies laugh at me,good natured mind you, well Im sure some of you know what I mean. Well, I wanted to do this and learn all I can before my retirement time so when I reach that retirement time, I can enjoy the extra time I have doing something I like to do.
Yes, to me its about the ride, the trip and the friends and friends Ive made along the road. If I find something nice or catch a big fish, thats just icing on the cake.
And as for the machines go, Im at a point right now where Im still a babe in the woods and the remarks you read sometimes in some of the forums makes you wonder. But , if you read enough, even though you may be uneducated on the matter, like me. You will learn who the experienced ones are and who are giving a objective review of a certain machine, coil, etc.
I ask questions, dumb to most of you Im sure, and sometimes I look back and say, why did I ask that, I look stupid now, lol. But I learn. Im just an ignorant man trying to lessen my ignorance, lol.
Yep, its the ride and friends/family that counts!

and sorry if you are not.. But I think being considerate is also making an opinion heard, whether good or bad.. And I think that some people want to know what some people think about new machines both good and bad, especially one that costs as much as the one I was referring to as a blunder.. And I don't mean blunder as being a bad machine, but in my opinion not as good a machine as the explorer, where I think they meant it to be better, and while I know it is not supposed to be an explorer, why pay more for something not as good, or sell off a better machine to spend more on one you may not be as happy with?.. I have been using minelabs exclusively since 1996, so its nothing against their machines or company for that matter, I have enjoyed using them all.. And while I guess I can afford to have more than one machine at this time, many can not, and to save someone from selling one to get another that may or may not be better is part of being considerate and honest, especially in these times where money isn't falling from trees.. I too enjoy hunting even when I don't find anything and have fun watching others find stuff even when I don't, but I sure like it better when I do also and want to be using the best machine I can be, or at least feel I am :) Everyone is entitled to an opinion, I think giving one is more considerate than just keeping quiet and letting someone make a decision based on only the good reviews.. especially where you don't know who may or may not be profiting from it.

I think being inconsiderate is posting nothing but the good with no bad, especially if you profit somehow, I know many do not profit and are happy with it as well, as well they should be, but for those experienced explorer users I just feel its a step down.. but thats just me.

No one has to take what I say as gospel, I just try and tell it as I see it... I usually read reviews on everything before I buy it.. I probably would have bought one even with reviews being bad to see for myself had I not bought one right off the get go anyway, and I am sure many others will and well should if they can afford it, just because I dont like it as well doesnt mean they wont.. But for those wondering whether and maybe scrapping up some extra cash for something they may not really afford to do at this time, I just want to make them aware they already have a pretty darn good machine

Every professional review I have read about any detector said basically the same thing. The reviews pushed the positive attributes of the detector and never mentioned the problems. I respect you for giving your honest opinion, but it was still just an opinion and I took it as such. Thank you for posting your feelings about the detector.

I appreciate anyone who says it like it is because I am the same way. In general I always look at the negative aspect of everything in life because that is the thing that is going to get you in the end but I am still positive so it doesn't drag me down. What I have noticed in my 46 years and counting on this Earth is that people like to paint a candy-coated world in just about every aspect of life. I look at reality because that's the world I live in. What Jim said is his opinion but he did lay out some facts as to why he didn't like it personally and that's the way I take it. I will stick with my SE until it blows up and I made that decision as soon as seen what the newer models had to offer.

As I was looking at it I said to myself,"she looks like someone I know." The women who played in Blade Runner. She looks like the younger version of course. I have to put that in there because the first thing she'll say is,"she's 49 years old!" I know how women think.

Well said  - I look at detecting to be a fun hobby and when I don't find nothing but trash, oh well, as long as it was fun. Finding the goods is just a bonus, like this forum. I had days, rainy days where I dash out in the backyard to swing a detector between the down pours, like I have a hundred times before. Then during the down pours, I can add to the hobby simply by the use of this forum. Plug in some headphones, start swinging and digging, let the dog tag along and sometimes assist in the digging, a hobby that can apply in many places starting close to home.
