Controls facing in or out with straight rod set-up?

I got my Anderson Over-Under rod for my Exclibur 1000 yesterday. I was wondering if I am better off mounting the controls facing me, or facing out. It seems like the pinpoint switch is more easily accessible with the knobs facing in, but I am afraid of them banging against me as I swing.

Which do you prefer?

its kinda personal preference on this one, you can always get a knob guard if your worried about that...i use a chest mount assay on mine and i have the disc/am switch on my hand grip..works out better that way for me..

Before I did the remote Discrimination/Pp buttons, I would reverse my pod and have it facing toward me, then being able to let go of the handle and reach over a few inchs and switch it between the two modes. I did tie off the head phone cord with a tie wrap, changing a couple times a year so one area of the cord would not wear from stress. I hunt in Pp mode for better depth, and a few other reasons..and switch to discriminate to check a target when I'm not sure. After you hunt in PP mode for awhile, knowing the target history of the beach your hunting, you can discriminate out a good percentage of your targets like a PI hunter does.

Myself i have used it both ways and even did it with the stock rod on the GT so the all metal disc toggle was so easy to switch when pinpointing a target. If I would hip mount that this wouldn't be necessary but in most cases I don't like to hip mount if i can get the control box to balance out on the shaft. Pluggers shaft work the best for me and if using a heavy coil I like to use a extension and get the control box back a little more.

face the controls out ...away from your body .The excal is a heavy detector you will find that with the straight shaft you will be swinging it close to your body so you dont want the controls bumping into you ...

Yup! Out with out a doubt. Just feels better to me also.
