Coon Creek Crab

This is one of my favorites. Its a 70 million year old Late Cretaceous crab from the Coon Creek Formation. I dug this out of the bank of Coon Creek (the locals call it Shell Creek) in Tennessee around 1971. It measures about 9 1/2 inches by 4 1/2 inches. I let Dad clean away the material on one side to expose the fossil and not knowing which was the top side or the under side he just guessed and cleaned the under side, so the rest of the crab's shell is still covered with the sandy material. Sorry about the poor picture. I've got this under glass and this is the best picture I can get with my camera. It does look much more impressive than the picture shows.
