Could Use a Prayer or Two! :stretcher:

I would appreciate prayers for my pain to lessen. I went hiking this morning (something I do fairly often). Ran across a big snake on the trail and picked up a huge rock to chunk at it in hopes of killing it. No boos or hisses from the snake lovers, please! I hate snakes and the only good one, poisonous or not, is a dead one. We have an over abundance of them here in the South! Anyway, After throwing the rock (and hitting the snake), I was going to take a couple of steps backwards when my heel caught on a rock that was sticking up out of the ground and I fell back, landing on my behind. I evidently twisted my knee badly as I went down. I was in excruciating pain but had to walk three miles out of the woods, including up the side of a mountain, to get back to my Jeep. I have osteoarthritis in my knees and figured I had just twisted it badly enough to make it hurt much worse than it usually does. Tim insisted on taking me to the ER. The ER doctor says that I tore the meniscus, and possibly some other stuff in my knee. He says I have to see the orthopedic doctor next week and is pretty sure I'll have to have surgery to repair it but we wont know for sure until then. He gave me pain shots and prescriptions for pain meds and for nausea (because the pain meds might make me sick). I'm having to wear a knee immobilizer and he also put me on crutches. It HURTS!!!! And I hate this! I need to be hiking, working, and tending to life in general! I don't like just sitting around. :surrender:

I will pray right now and more to follow! Get well soon!

 Hello Lisa,

Holy Father ... You ... more than anyone know of Lisa's pain as well as her need for physical renewal. Father ... grant her the courage to deal with this injury and walk with her in newness of mind and spirit. Heal her Father as only you can do, as You are the great physician. We ask it in Jesus Name ... Amen.

P.S. Lisa ... you may not like snakes but God does have a purpose for them in this world. It's unfortunate that one crossed your pathway while hiking. I've learned that if I leave them alone, they'll wander off in a different direction to hiss at something or someone else. Maybe you should consider purchasing a 'Walking Stick' to protect you on your future walks? In Vietnam, our troops knew all about snakes and learned to avoid them without physical damage, either to themselves or to the snakes. No one liked them but preferred the snakes to the rats, etc. There was one exception: it was called the 'Two-Step' snake. The name says it all and those were destroyed every time, if at all possible, without letting the Vietcong know we were in the area.

On a lighter note, there are a variety of sprays available that you can carry, while hiking, to send a snake packing in a different direction.

remember if you are ever lost with no food the rattlersnake is delicious :super:tastes like chicken.fried with cajun seasoning is super---no wild taste, great taste:laugh:

Thank you to all who have responded and prayed! I really appreciate you guys!

He already has been spoiling me! Actually, he always does.

I know that sitting around feeling. Good time to catch up on some reading in the Word. Maybe God thought ya needed to slow down a little :) You take it easy and get the help ya need to get through this.

Thanks for the prayer, it is greatly appreciated.

I'm sure snakes do serve a purpose! Rats, flies, mosquitoes, roaches, etc., probably do too - but we try to do away with them also. We have so many snakes here that they NEED to be thinned out. I've seen MANY snakes while hiking and while doing most everything else around here. Some of them get away... many don't. My daughter has been bitten by a copperhead AND a rattlesnake. I have always HATED snakes, but this just adds to my hatred of them. She wasn't trying to provoke either snake and she wasn't playing around with either of them when it happened.

I haven't ever heard of a spray for snakes! Never seen anything like that in our outfitter stores or sporting goods stores. Most people around here put out moth balls to help keep snakes away from their houses. It definitely DOES help, but it doesn't completely stop them from coming around. I've seen something advertised, some type of pellets called Snake Away, that can be used in gardens and such, but I hear that it isn't all that effective either. Like thousands of others, we have contacted pest control people/agencies to inquire about things we can use to keep snakes away or to kill them. We have been told that moth balls are the best bet because anything else we could put out would also kill other things, and we don't want to do that.

I do carry a hiking stick/staff made of hickory and I also own a set of trekking poles, but to be perfectly honest, I didn't want snake blood and guts on it!

Sorry that I can't be more of a snake activist...
