Couple of Omega 8500 hunts!:teknetics:

Been able to get about eight hours or so afield with the 8500 between yesterday and today. Although found nothing outstanding, as a ardent old coin hunter anytime I can recover silver and other older coins, I am thrilled and the 8500 and I are starting to get to know each other a bit.

Yesterday I hit a pretty nasty iron laden site and had on the 5" dd coil. Most notable of my finds yesterday were the compact, a couple of 40's era wheat cents and the 45 Mercury dime...along with a few pieces of clad and modern cents.

Today my buddy and I hit another old spot that we and others have hunted pretty hard. Today I had on the 11" dd coil as the area's we were hunting weren't heavily trashed. My first coin target which came not to long after we started was the 1905 I H. As you can see, our ground is not real kind to any coin. Not to long after that I recovered the 37 Washington quarter and that was followed by a 48d Rosie. I hit the 1918 wheat cent near the end of our hunt and the other stuff was intermingled among the old coin finds. Not shown was 5 pieces of clad, 1 nickel and 4 Memorial cents.

I tried various settings and dug several junk items that I felt were going to be trash, but needed to see for sure what the Omega was saying. When its a coin, one will know it. Still learning this 8500, but it is great to have an Omega back in my coin hunting arsenal. HH jim tn

WOW Nice finds.

Jim, thanks for your post, and I'm glad to hear that you like the 8500..there has not been a lot said about it on these forums...good to get some positive feedback. I'm still thinking about getting one...the distributorship her in Australia has gone belly up, so waiting to see where I will be able to order one. Keep up the good work, Happy New Year to you and yours.

and Happy New Year to you guys.

Furious T, I am really liking the 8500 and of the two 8000's and this 8500, it is the best Omega I have had. I have yet to encounter a emi issue of any kind and while I haven't yet been able to compare depth between the 8000 and 8500, (my hunting buddy has a 8000) early impressions are the 8500 is deeper. Hope you are able to locate one, I really believe you will like it. HH jim tn

Those are some nice finds..can't wait to see how it stacks up to the 8000.

Thanks Jim, I have had my 8000 for 6 years now, and since then it has paid for itself (in spendable money) five and a half times....I still love it, but there are times when I wonder if it is getting a bit old and weary (like me). The 8500 sounds good, and your words are encouraging. HH, Pete

Great hunt, Jim.

Nice finds, congrats! I found a compact that looked very similar, I believe it was from the 1930's. Keep it up~! HH:clap:

Thanks! I gave the 8500 a pretty good work out after I got it and now it shares time with my F 75. I like the 8500 better then the two 8000's I had. It has some added features that I like and gets near amazing depth. The tones do take some getting used to and they seem smaller, or, to borrow a term,"clipped." But, as mentioned, just a matter of getting accustomed to them. HH jim tn

Jim, by clipped tones do you mean like the new F11,F22 and F44 series ?

I don't have one of those, so can't say. Mike Hillis I believe has the F 22 or the F 44 and the 8500, so he could better answer you. HH jim tn
