Been able to get about eight hours or so afield with the 8500 between yesterday and today. Although found nothing outstanding, as a ardent old coin hunter anytime I can recover silver and other older coins, I am thrilled and the 8500 and I are starting to get to know each other a bit.
Yesterday I hit a pretty nasty iron laden site and had on the 5" dd coil. Most notable of my finds yesterday were the compact, a couple of 40's era wheat cents and the 45 Mercury dime...along with a few pieces of clad and modern cents.
Today my buddy and I hit another old spot that we and others have hunted pretty hard. Today I had on the 11" dd coil as the area's we were hunting weren't heavily trashed. My first coin target which came not to long after we started was the 1905 I H. As you can see, our ground is not real kind to any coin. Not to long after that I recovered the 37 Washington quarter and that was followed by a 48d Rosie. I hit the 1918 wheat cent near the end of our hunt and the other stuff was intermingled among the old coin finds. Not shown was 5 pieces of clad, 1 nickel and 4 Memorial cents.
I tried various settings and dug several junk items that I felt were going to be trash, but needed to see for sure what the Omega was saying. When its a coin, one will know it. Still learning this 8500, but it is great to have an Omega back in my coin hunting arsenal. HH jim tn
