Couple of questions for RayMo

Ray; I read the post about the machine running silent, I have found several areas where I've been lately where mine also does that. Over the years I understood that if you did not hear the threshold it may be a problem. It seems that with the E-Trac its not a problem to run silent. Have you seen any problems or draw backs with the unit running silent. I'm learning the ins and outs on it but I'm just not sure. I also saw your post about not looking at the numbers, just learn the tones and dig, I knew my DFX tones inside out but the E-Trac is kicking my butt. Lots of high pitch smooth tones that are junk, Tried to slow down my swing some but was still the same. I've been detecting too long to just give up any help would be appreciated.

Well first of all I was running in factory coins and don't seem to get many high smoothe signals that are false or junk with mine.I have found that the E-Trac will hit good targets in a solid full sweep null or silence of threshold.

As I stated the depth is not over 4" in the cinders and more like 2"-3" on coins.Auto sens. was way down to 5-7 but a coin would come through now and then but the ID # were way lower than usual.

I knew there were still coins in that area and just kept plugging away and found a few but it was not all that easy.In other words I had to work at it.I might be able to tweak some of the settings and do better but just left it at my usual settings this time.

Also in the trashy sites I hve found multi tones to work better.In some of the old sites with little lost after 1930s and a lot less modern trash that 4 tones work well .

I have tried running in open screen or quickmask in conductive and did not get along very well,maybe a lack of patience.Keep in mind that almost all my sites and finds are from old parks,fairgrounds,schools and churches.I think relic hunters will need to set up differently for best results.

My statement about not watching the numbers to close was to point out that some nice buttons and other good items will hit different from coins but still sound good.In a nice park or any lawn the E-Trac will do a great job IDing coins and especialy silver to good depths and keep digging to a bare minimum with wery little junk.Again I want to point out that this is in coins program that I make this statement or refference.

Hope this helps a little and I hunt alone 99% of the time and so have not had a chance to compare with others except when I first got the E-Trac.I just hit on a setup that is working well for me here in MO and may not work as well for others and their style of hunting.I am the kind of person who tweaks a machine untill I am happy with results and then leave it alone as long as I am happy with the results/finds.

I have not tried any patterns or even opened the CD that came with machine,my motto is IF IT AIN'T BROKE DON'T FOOL WITH IT,Ray.
PS not to say patterns are bad just not my cup of tea.

I understand about not "fooling with it" that's exactly what I've always done find what works and go with it. Not sure about all of the tones yet seems too many but I'm going to get on some clean ground work it and see what it does. I failed to mention I'm still digging a lot of coins but it just seems like a lot of noise and a lot of junk I'm digging.
