Covering all the bases part 3

25 white bass is the limit so what we'd do is catch 50 between us, then ask the people on the bank if they wanted them. At first we did good, but later we couldnt give em away because everyone was catching their own. That days total was 130 white bass between the two of us.[attachment 53768 fishingtrip2007051.jpg]

The next morning we fished for largemouths until around 11:00am with out even a bump. We decided to fish for white bass again until the evening. We went back to the same place where the bank was lined with fishermen and fisherwomen. We witnessed two or three little kids that couldnt have been over three years old catch their first fish EVER! This one little boy would say,"uuuoooohh" everytime that he'd reel one in. The people were really having a blast.

We caught 65 more that day and was on our way up the boat ramp when we saw a boat coming in that looked familar. It was a couple of guys from Camden that we had talked to around 3:00pm. It was around 7:00 pm and they were back??? " Look in the live well," one of them said. Inside was a fish that looked like a monster. It was huge. That was a nine pounder that he decided to keep after culling another one. He also said that one had hit him hard and snapped his line. Not much of an excuse though because the is no excuse. He just didnt have his drag set right.

That fired us up again for largemouth so we decided to go out in the morning more determined than ever. We went back to the place where I had caught my good one and started there. David almost immediately caught one 2 1/2 pounds. I saw one hit the top of the water beside the boat and told David that I'd get him around there to let him cast. As I did, I tossed out the old june-bug lizard and one nailed it. He was 21"X14"; another good 5 pounder. I apoligized and off we went again to fish the point by the old house. The water was about 4 ft deep around the back of the house. David threw out in open water and one hit his. 20 1/2"X 13 1/2". A darn good fish!

As David was reeling it in, a boat approched us with a man and a woman in it. He made a wide circle and came in behind us. He yelled out,"Did you kiss that fish before you released it?" I replied no, but I was about ready to. We keep with in talking range when the guy in the boat set his hook. He landed a nice one and we ask how big it was. "It was 9 pounds and I caught it with my wifes rod.....then she took it back!"

Thursday was our last day so we made sure that we got a good nights sleep. We were on the point by the old house at daylight the next morning. We were right in the back door of the old house so I threw out between a tree and the door. BAM! One nailed almost immediately. 19 1/2"X 13". A beautiful fish! a nice dark green and very chunky.[attachment 53770 fishingtrip2007062.jpg] David caught one later that morning around 2 1/2 pounds. After he caught it we noticed a boat coming out way with three men in it. They were just trolling along when a man on each end of the boat hooked in to one each. Wow! A double. The guy in the boat down the lake from us got on his cell phone aand started asking questions. It was his buddies in the boat and they had both just caught twin ten pounders!

We fished until around 11:00am before going back to the boat ramp. We caught 18 more white bass beforeloading up and heading back home. What a fishing trip. Over 200 white bass, an 8 pounder, and four around 5 pounds!

I took David back home,(he had to go back to St Louis), but I went back Saturday morning hoping to beat the storm. I didnt and I didnt catch a fish. 4 ft waves and the wind just howling!

It was a great vacation a a very sucessful fishing trip. The story doesnt stop here though. Turkey season opens in the morning and I had a dilema. To hunt or not to hunt. John and I always hunt together , but the vision of catching a monster sow still haunts me. David and I came all so close last time. I know that its a matter of time.

Anyway, Johns going hunting---I'm going fishing---and Linda is in Canada visiting a lot of our friends. This way, all the bases are covered. We'll let you know.

And now for my attempt at posting some photos. Thanks for coming along.....[attachment 53767 fishingtrip2007041.jpg][attachment 53766 fishingtrip2007045.jpg][attachment 53771 fishingtrip2007063.jpg]

I was in that boat with you! A five pound bass is very rare in Michigan. I have seen them diving but have only caught a couple.

That was a fishing trip to be remembered. Every fisherman needs one like that but some never get them.

I was telling a guy in the gym today about your story and told him how it was firing me up to cast a plug or two, mebby a rubber worm in the Lilly's.

I need some fishing!!

Thank you for the story. Maybe it will inspire some of us to get off our dead butts and start to typing:thumbup:

You dun good

I figure I'll have to get you to guide me, once turkey season is over.

Now, where's my fishin' rod?

Johnboy

The pictures are just great, showing the beautiful colors of the Florida-strain largemouth bass. Now go get the state record!

Makes me want to go!Trips like that don't come often.Congrats on a great trip and thanks for telling us about it!

story and your photos. Appears you and David had an extremely wonderful time together and a good much needed relaxing trip. I am having a great time up here so far, but when I get back, be prepared to take me to this fishin" hole!!!!!

There is a local store here that post photos of the fishermen and their catch. Saw a 20 pound dolly varden trout?? (foreign to me to) but nevertheless BIG) and would work for me. Will be posting some photos when I have more time.

Your story was great. Try and post some more, and give me a call. Long time before I will see you again. Love to you, :)

And I loved the story ! Lookin' at you guys fishin' in your t-shirts on that water sure looks inviting. Just a great post and another great memory, no doubt. Thanks for taking us on the trip !

to read this story.

I went back yesterday in a windstorm and lost the trolling motor. Well, I didnt lose it, but it quit on me.(a bearing)

After a trip to the local Walmart, I was back in business with a brand new foot controlled motor.

This morning was 40 degrees and more wind. I hung in there from 600am til 1100am. I couldnt take any more! Im already for the next trip though.
