Wonder if they even test them after manufacturing. Testing takes time and time is money. If they have very few issues on newly made ones, they may not test them. Good luck getting it sorted out!Still a problem with it so it will be taking a trip to cscope under warranty.Personally i think its a coil issue.......this day and age they shouldn't be leaving the factory with faults.
Years ago on a hunt with a Fisher CZ in the water with a coil cover on, as the hunt progressed I was digging fewer and fewer targets and all were dimes or quarters. When I got to the car, I tried some targets and found it would not hit nickles at all. Pulled the coil cover off and saw a lot of black sand had worked its way into the cover. Cleaned that away and the detector would again detect the low conductive targets and detect them well. That was the last time I went out with coil cover.Really interested in the CS4pi and hope it works so thanks. Yea, coil covers suck, esp if you water hunt and sand and water get inside cover and move causing increased noise and reduced target signal to noise ratio.
Nauti,Well went out with it today and i think its a faulty unit so i've emailed c scope with the issues i was having.Spurious high pitched signals and threshold icreasing wildly and then returning to normal.......sounds like something in the electronics isn't quite right.Still, managed this earing and it was really fun to use...had a couple of deep signals, one was alumiium and one i had to give up on.May take it back out tomorrow to a different part of the beach to make sure its not an interference issue.View attachment 84483
Definitely does not look good.View attachment 84613
This could be the problem.......as the epoxy cured this bubble formed and to me it looks porous on its surface.
The more I look at that.View attachment 84613

Have you heard back from c-scope?Could be Odans.......God only knows how that got through quality control if it is..........thats not like cscope to be fair, its shocking.![]()
Yes bud.........im sending it back today......they said they would most likely just replace it with a new unit.Have you heard back from c-scope?
I can't wait to see what you find and your experience running it.Well its back with cscope so im just waiting for the verdict.......should have the 4 back soon either repaired or a new unit. Can't wait to get it back because i've seen its potential.![]()
I can't either bud........the potential is definately there, one feint target i dug was at a silly depth.I can't wait to see what you find and your experience running it.
Just a suggestion Nauti, probably my sales & marketing background coming through, but next time you correspond or speak with them, might want to drop a mention that you're a member of a large metal detecting forum in the U.S., and have a post running about the detector, with plans on testing and publishing your testing results. Also mention that several members that have already commented on your testing post with serious interest in the detector. When a company knows that you're in front of a large number of potential customers for them, they tend to give you priority status and move quickly. They of course, would like you to have a positive customer support experience along with them receiving a positive review. And ya never know, they might also include some swag when they send the detector back.I can't either bud........the potential is definately there, one feint target i dug was at a silly depth.
Sounds like a plan. I don't recall exactly, but I think there's over 50K members in Finds? That's a lot of metal detecting eyeballs, and IMO, the only people in a metal detecting forum are people who have metal detectors, or people who are interested in metal detecting and want to learn more. And I know there's been a lot of posts and comments from guys in this Beach and Water Hunting sub-forum, along with the same sub-forums on other detecting forums, complaining about the lack of new PI's for beach & water hunting. Seems all the manufacturers keep coming out with new PI's for nugget hunters but not for us beach bums. That sounds like a good idea,im just waiting for them to get in touch to tell me their findings.........i'll tell them that as soon as i get it back im going to put it through its paces for you guys and that some of you have shown an interest......you never know. Thanks for the advice,i am looking forward to seeing what it can do and you guys will be the first to know.![]()
Yeah, if it's not waterproof, it wouldn't be as attractive to beach hunters like a waterproof version would. Not that we're necessarily gonna be dunking the control box in/under saltwater. It's also great to be waterproof in case it starts raining when hunting, also keeps the sand out of the control box. I hunted beaches for over 14 years with my Minelab Sovereign Elite (see profile pic), which isn't waterproof. But what I did was I bought the Minelab pouch for the control box and wear it up chest high. I also put my control box in a long plastic bag and secured the ends by taping around the coil and headphone connectors. Figured that would give me additional protection against sand, rain, and mists of water coming off the ocean. I used that setup in shallow water but always had a burning fear in the back of my mind that I'd get hit by a rogue wave and topple into the water. So, I never went more than knee deep with the Minelab. But I recently added a Dual Field PI to my arsenal, waterproof to 100 ft, so now I don't have to worry about rain, blowing sand, or falling over into the water if I venture further out. That said, White's is no more and Garret doesn't appear to be releasing any of their more popular detectors, it's been over 5 years, and they haven't released anything from the White's catalog. Seems a bit silly to me to buy a company, have rights to all their technology, then just sit on that technology. So, it would be great to see some new, reasonably priced, waterproof PI's being released. But so far, nothing. No bud,its not waterproof which is one reason i have held off buying the machine for a very long time.......i really don't understand manufacturers who market a machine as a dedicated beach machine and don't put the electronics in a waterproof box,i think maybe this is one of the main reasons it isn't as popular as it could be for beach detecting enthusiasts.
I've been in marketing so yeah, I get the desire to make products look appealing. But if yours doesn't look appealing at first glance, that could work in your favor. You wouldn't appear to be a threat to other hunters. They'd probably figure that you were a newbie with an off-brand detector. But what they probably won't realize is that non appealing, off brand looking detector is a PI, so you can just walk behind them and scoop up all the goodies that were out of their detectors range. Better to have an unassuming detector with a pouch full of goodies, than a really cool looking detector with an empty pouch or pouch full of pull-tabs and can slaw, lol.The other problem.....and it's not a problem with the detector itself.......is the fact that it doesn't look very spectacular. The design of the detector hasn't changed for years and it just looks a bit old hat........in this age of the latest screens and gagetry it just doesn't look that appealing does it....it doesn't look like it's going to find a lot, sounds daft but thats how the marketing men have influenced peoples choices nowdays.
Ya never know, they may have thought about, or maybe even are planning to release a waterproof version, but they gotta start somewhere. Maybe this is their first release of this type of PI. If results are good, and they get some good publicity and sales, maybe they will take a leap to the next phase and put that control box in a waterproof housing. They might just want to see how this one does first, before making any additional commitments, i.e., walk before ya run.It could definately be improved for sure and made more appealing,i'm just really interested in the performance,if it's as good as people say it really would be worth CScope doing a few upgrades like making it waterproof and perhaps a few different coils.......minelab have managed to do it with the xterra pro,its waterproof, has interchangeable coils and costs less to buy than the 4.
