CTX 3030 Depth at beach

My ctx does not seem to find anything deeper the 4 to 6 inches on the beach in the beach program. Not sure why. My CZ70 finds things 10 to 12 inches with no problems also hits are solid with the fisher cz70
 
I just got back and depth was not the problem. Digging was. I ran open screen deep on low trash 4 tone wet and dry sand and was impressed with the depth. I used my Excallibur in the water ( have not gotten my waterproof headphones yet). I think the CTX will do fine in the deep water also. Sounds like you need to experiment with some different settings. A hundred yards makes a lot of difference on some beachs. Start with your sensitivity at manual 12 (don't laugh) and when you find a deep target in the sand experiment with different settings and tones. Good luck and HH :minelab:
 
I agree with the post above, it may be where you are hunting and the settings you are using. I was just at the beach last night (VA) and I dug a number of targets in the dry sand that indicated 12 inches. In the wet sand and shallow water, the deepest target was 9 inches. My sensitivity on dry sand was between 27-30. Wet sand was 23. Water was 19-23. Found mostly clad and a few ear rings - one junk ring. On the wet sand and in the water, the CTX can be chatty at higher settings, but the good targets always produce a solid tone that is easily identifiable from the noise. Some other members have said that they did not notice any significant depth loss with lower sensitivity; that is not the case with me. Any setting below 21 seems to cut my depth in half - particularly on land targets that are on end or not ideally positioned in the dirt. I run manual sensitivity most of the time, as I have found that there was not a significant advantage to auto. Typical settings on beach - manual. deep. GB Off, tone response = normal, pinpoint, target trace On, target pinpoint On, ground coin and combined audio. I run discrimination from the 27 line down; rest of the screen remains open.
 
I have done some testing and have it posted some place here. But I have done the same thing as above. I run around 20 and after finding a target I go from 12 to 26 and see if the target changes any. What I have found varies greatly. Some targets get better lower and some better higher?What I did find was at a lower sensitivity number the target was better identified via the FE-CO numbers the higher you ran the worse the numbers jumped. I think my problem is coming from hunting with the Excalibur and GT is that faint means deeper targets. With those two machines you worked the target and decided to dig. With the 3030 I have never heard a faint signal all have been loud tones that I have set myself. This is mind boggling to my thought process. This is the reason why I keep thinking I am missing targets with the 3030. As posted here yesterday I took the Excal back out and it helped me to compare the two machines. Some of my Excal targets were faint but not deep! I know that target on the beaches are mostly on edge its the nature of the soft sand. So I am back to the thought that the 3030 can better read targets even on edge and Identify them thus giving a more soil id tone?
By the design of the 3030 the target gets it tone from the user. What I am saying is if the 3030 says its a 12-43 and your tone for 12-43 is set for 1200 then its going to be that tone no matter the depth Am i thinking this correctly?

Turn down your gain some if you like to hear the deepies by sound alone. I have a ballfield that I went to yesterday that would have helped me out if I had lowered the gain some. Anything at this field that was 5 inches or less was clad. 6 inches was the wheats and silver. Its nice to distinguish by sound and not have to look at depth guage at every high tone. All targets will sound the same with deep on and gain at max. Actually the real shallow targets detune slightly but not a huge noticeable difference. HH Joe
 
Buried...what Joe is saying is true but why would you want to barely hear the deep targets? What if there were 2 shallow targets and a deep target in the middle? You would probably not hear the deeper target. With DEEP-ON and gain set at 30, you hear all targets basically the same. Alll you need to do is look at the screen. Now if you are looking for gold rings, set the pitch for the lower targets 05-01 through 12-30 at 1100. A pitch at 1200 sometimes gets drowned out by the lower targets especially if the 1100 target is close to iron and only chirps.
 
Hey Jim something you should try is to turn down the gain a bit. I used to think why not just have it at max it is better. But I have seen first hand where the machine at times, and I do not know why, actually gains a small amount of depth by turning it down. I know it does not sound right but I have seen it myself. It may be somthing the filter is doing. Next time you get a deep iffy target that is near the edge of the detectors depth capability play with the gain in increments of 2 before you dig, you may just be surprised.
 
I will try it for sure. The problem here is that many targets are above 8" and well within the detectors range.
