CTX 3030 newbie help

New member
Hi guys,

I need any tips or suggestions on my CTX 3030. I got it 2 days ago and wow this thing can be confusing. I went from an AT Pro which seemed very easy to learn.

My problem is I have no idea what is good and what isn't. I primarily want to hunt old coins / maybe some gold depending on the area.

By default it looks like the 3030 is in coin mode, is this a good mode for both? The numbers on the screen that appear are also confusing. I've tried to look up a chart for these

but can't seem to find one that has constant values between dime/quarter/50 cent/gold/ etc.

Is it easier to leave it on the 50 flutey noise profile ID or the 2 tone? seems the tone jumps all over the place on any target.

Any suggestions would be absolutely appreciated, what to start with. What settings are good? or even a CTX 3030.MLX file that one of you guys have that

I could use as a reference for my settings.

Also I was wondering is there a way for the CTX 3030 to display what 'potential' object is underground on the screen instead of the numbers?

Thank you all very much

Jeremy

You are correct about there being no videos apparent as you enter the link but the references and other info is still available.

Digger offers this link:

Get the CTX 3030 book from Andy Sabisch, read it and keep it as a back up.
Also find you tube videos that detail different modes and settings that may be of interest to your method of hunting.
Learn how to " adjust it down" to start .
Most importantly , Make yourself a test garden to experiment with and adjust the settings to see what changes they make .

Target Trace is the feature that will show you what's under the coil, lots of info in the book on this and several good you tubes vids also.

After bench testing and watching the numbers , compare with test garden results and you should have a start on how the numbers work.
Then take it out and go slow , dig everything until you get a handle on what the machine is telling you, then you can be more selective .
Build a test garden

Read the manual and set it up in combined tone profile. It will make a lot more sense after that.

Read, read, read, watch, watch, watch. In the mean time just do it. Its not bad at default. You can gain skill and improve for the next 20 years and have fun doing it.
It really sin't that hard to use and you can hone forever if you are of a mind to do so.

Thank you all for all your tips and suggestions. I did try a few of the MLF's on the resource page and didn't have much luck with them. One just emitted a high pitch squeal the entire time and if u went over any metal got even higher in tone, I feel like i'm going to start from scratch with a factory reset. Are any of the built in modes good for just general use, coins/gold? I mainly keep it in Coins Mode but i have trouble finding a pattern to any of the FE/CO numbers that appear on the screen. It seems when i run over an object underground the number changes from like

12.08 to 01.14 or some other spastic change, it never keeps the same number. Does anyone have a MLF that would be more of just low tones = iron. and maybe a build up of higher tones in order of currency, penny high, dime higher, quarter higher, silver highest? Hope this don't sound to crazy. Just with the AT Pro I could just easily look at the screen and see the dial say penny, dime, quarter, etc. very big change having to remember numbers, this time next year i'll probably look back and laugh at how silly my questions were when I first got it, and hopefully mastered some level of what the 3030 can do.

This may be a silly question, so forgive me if it isn't the case... but your comment about the constant high pitch squeal ... do you by chance have the machine in pinpoint mode? (Press and release the trigger on the underneath side).

squeal? Are you talking about the threshold?

HAve you downloaded and read the instructions? If not, DO THAT FIRST. So many beginners questions are answered right there in the manual but most won't take the simple route.

If you can get a copy of the Andy Sabich book, get it too. It does a better job of explaining the "why's" of many things where the manual just tells you "how"
