CTX maiden voyage at Gettysburg Confederate Camp

Downdeep

TomH and I took our CTXs out for their maiden voyage today for about 2hrs. A whopping 34 degrees and spitting rain/sleet....our boots picked up about 20 lbs of mud each but we made it through. I was able to pull a few relics out of the ground once I broke through the frozen 2" crust. Didn't find anything mind blowing though did find something odd. I pulled out what at first I thought was an Indian Head penny, but it was white. When I got home to look at it with the magnifying glass, I noticed that everything was in reverse! Someone had taken an 1888 IH and pressed it onto lead making a very well made backward copy. Has anyone heard of such a thing??

Would have been nice if the date were civil war era, then I may have believed so. Otherwise, hard to guess.

Derek,

Talk about a tough test for the machines first time out. At one point my coil was completely submerged in ice water. Digging wasn't too bad though, once you broke through the ice.

The CTX impressed me. Even with the wet conditions I ran auto +2 with no falseing to speak of. Got what appears to be the outer ring from a three piece coat button at about 8 inches and a good sized lump of melted lead at about 10 inches. Given the conditions and the fact that we were only there for two hours I am definitely a happy guy.

That reverse penny in lead seems mind blowing to me. A very unique conversation piece. Well done.
