I'm not giving up my etrac just yet, I read a report on the ctx that stated no increase in depth over the etrac was heavy and caused more shoulder strain, from what I got out of his test was the only thing that made it better than the etrac was being waterproof. Being waterproof to me is not a big deal as I don't like hunting in the rain anyway.

CTX or ETRAC

Haven't heard any report about the CTX causing more shoulder strain.----The reports I've heard (from several reliable sources & the few guys that have already had a chance to use the CTX) are that although it is a tad heavier than the Etrac, it's much better balanced & feels like you are swinging a light Etrac.-----Don't know that it's going to be any deeper than the Etrac---maybe not.-------I'm with you in that I'm not giving up my Etrac (just yet anyway).-----Although I'm going to try the CTX, I'm not giving up King Etrac till I do some serious comparison checks/tests of my own on the two detectors.------Wanta hear from guys like Dr. Bob & Ray also as to their comparison checks & tests of the two machines.-----Ya there Ray & listenin??

Boy .......You sure get up early Del !!! Can it even be light out yet where you are? Mike I have talked to a dealer that is fairly close to me that has about 20 or so hours with the new ctx and he has a bum wrist and so far the weight has not been a problem.I really DO Love my Etrac and am Not giving it up anytime soon.Having said that to me anyway....one of the biggest things about the ctx is that you can see multiple targets under the coil.If you think about how many times your Etrac nulls out when detecting and think of the posible loss of depth near those nulls on what could be close to that iron you get a better idea of what you could be missing.Water proof is good for me also as I hunt shallow water alot when the ground gets to dry.I have sold a couple detectors and some gold to finance this and hope it lives up to the hipe.I guess I could not really tell anyone to buy a ctx as I havn't used it yet.I remember when the Whites 6DB came out and people complained about how much it cost.Well the first time out with that machine I found 11 pieces of silver in two hrs with one being a standing liberty with a full date.After some practice it was nothing to have 25-30- pieces of silver in a 3-4 hr hunt.I guess what I'm getting at is that I think this could be one of those leaps in tecknology(?) Atleast I'm hopeing. Grumpy

I have six coils and six lower rods for my E-Trac and hate to give them up unless the CTX merrits doing so. I am the kind of person who likes to find the best machine for me and then use it every time out so I can master it rather than try to learn several machines at once and master none.

I got to play with one for about ten minutes at the show. I don't know who says it's more strain but I have a wrecked shoulder and can't hunt without a swingy thingy. I felt far less strain with the CTX then with the Etrac. I know right off how somethings going to go with my shoulder from hard experience.
As for depth that will come out from people using it in various soils. Going to be hard to judge from one persons opinion. The seperation abilities from the testers seem to trump even the Etrac.
Don't believe I've seen a review on line with complaints about weight. I can tell you that it felt much lighter on my arm then my Etrac. I mean really much lighter.

Now the problem is the cost. It's going to take a while, if ever, to save up for it. So me and my Etrac will be keeping good company for a while. What I don't get is all the people who feel they have to bash something that they've never even held or used and is yet to be widely tested by many detectorists.

ordered the 3030 but will always keep my etrac its such a great detector looking forward to some of the added things for me the being able to change the bins and add your preferred sound is the best feature for me as i am tone deaf but noone will ever knock the great performance of my beloved etrac

I think you are very smart to wait. One of the aspects of the CTX 3030 that is not being discussed is "add on" pricing. To use the unit in the water you have to buy the waterproof headphones. And if you want more coils, the CTX 3030 coils are not interchangeable with other FBS machines. So adding just a coil and waterproof headphones will push the price over 3K. Unless the performance is significantly better or some of the new features are what you want (tracing, GPS, waterproofing) it may be hard to justify the additional expense.
It will be interesting to get some honest evaluations from forum members who do opt to buy the detector now.
