CTX questions

So I've had my CTX about 3 months now. I feel like I'm finally getting the hang of it and learning about it. It's a great machine overall. The only thing I can't understand with a machine this high end and expensive with so many features is why on earth they didn't include Blue tooth for the headphones. Would it interfere with the detector frequencies or eat too much battery or what? Don't get me wrong I knew this going in and the wireless module is suitable. I just feel like this was a large oversight and could have been a huge improvement. For me it would have been a larger selling feature than the GPS.

Anyway let me get to my real question. I'm about to start water hunting but I'm afraid to take the CTX in the ocean with all the leaking problems and such. I've seen everything about using the silicone grease on the battery packs and such but it just terrifies me with a machine this pricey. I've used an excal in the past and was considering picking up another for water hunting. Do you guys think that's just redundant and a waste of money? My main reason to get the CTX was to only have one machine to mess with instead of an ATPro and Excal but the stories have me scared. Am I just being over cautious? I'd appreciate opinions.

From what I have read is Blue Tooth tends to have a lag in it which would make pinpointing harder. This is just what I have read. Also from a marketing standpoint, Minelab has proprietary technology in their wireless module so they can keep the profits, not share with other Btooth headphones.

As far as having two machines, one for water and the CTX...I have two machines, one for water (Infinium LS) and the CTX because I don't want to risk it. I have used the CTX in fresh water where it is not as rough on equipment with no problems.

What Overvoltage said. I use my CTX as if it is waterRESISTANT and my Excal as waterPROOF. I like having the extra safety margin on an expensive machine.

Oh, and you might want to rethink that greasing the O ring idea. Theres credible thought that the grease will trap tiny sand particles which will ultimately lead to seal failure. I don't know the answer, but I just keep mine cleaned with fresh water (and am religious about doing so).

GPS feature is big improvement anyway in my opinion. You can easy plan your treasure hunting trips with big precision and without time wasting.

The module allows you to use your choice of headphones that sound best to your ears plus not having any lag time like most blue tooth systems. If you keep the battery/o-ring area clean and catches latched leaking should not be much of an issue. Have had mine submerged for many hours at a time on many hunts with zero leakage but was not in heavy surf ....

I also cant get myself to submerge my 3030. Iam buying a garrett sea Hunter so as not to risk my 3030. Not that expensive and then wont worry about taking it underwater when needed.

Do you guys think that's just redundant and a waste of money?
No. The CTX is its own unique machine and can do quite well submerged.

Am I just being over cautious?
Yes. Don't be cautious be meticulous with the cleaning. Then there won't be any problems. I've used the CTX underwater in the saltwater for a year now and it works just fine. But you do need to keep the gasket clean with silicone applied. I also apply silicone to the mating edges of the battery compartment.

If you SCUBA beyond the CTX depth capabilities, then you should look elsewhere (like the Fisher CZ-21).
