curious about headphones

Looking for opinions on headphones.
What works best.
Features to look for.
Features that are a waste of money.
Traditional vs earbuds vs ???.

For example, I like the on-ear, behind-the-head sports heaphones in hot weather. They allow me to wear a wide brim hat and I can easily remove one or the other to listen to my surroundins. The downside is usually little or no volume control. Requires an adapter for most machines. Block very little ambient noise.

Features to look for? Hmmm? Beings I've never spent more than about $20.00 on a set of head phones I'm not qualified to comment on much, beyond features that I looked for.

I've been into this hobby for quite a while and until about 6 months ago I've always used the traditional wired head phones. Then I came across a set of relatively inexpensive Rapoo H3070 Wireless 2.4GHz Headset Stereo Headphones while cruising eBay and decided to give them a try.

I received them in July of last year and have never gone back to a wired head set. And don't intend to. I swing Both the Fisher F5, F70 and a Toltec II and they work equally well for me on all three machines. For what they cost plus the freedom of going wireless I think there the cats meow.

Attached are a couple of images showing the headphones and the transmitter as I have it mounted under the battery box of my F70 using Velcro strips and a Radio Shack 8" headphone extension cord and a stereo adapter plug. If interested in more details please feel free to PM me.

Either way HH:detecting:

I would consider "wireless" a feature. I stayed away from them because of lag and interference reasons.
But the newer ones seem to have less problems than the older units.

I like the Rapoo as well on my etrac but they interfer with the F75. However , as the weather cooled off I went back to the regular wired ones because I go tired of constantly charging the Rapoos. I use earbuds on the 75 but they all have such short cables--I'd like a decent set with 5 1/2 or 6" cord. No apparent lag with the Rapoos.

I've had to use cord extensions with the behind-the-head types too. I might look into a transmitter/receiver setup for wireless.
I'm not always impressed with the headphones on wireless kits. Especially the ones that use cheap foam for the speakers.

I always tell my customers the next biggest investment after buying a detector should be headphones. This is one item you don't want to skimp on. If you don't have a quality sound and blocking out the surrounding environment you'll never hear the deep signals. I personally like the Killer B line. Quality phones and leather ear muffs which make a difference in the heat.

Killer bee. Wasp. Full coverage. XP backbones for summer use. Both work great on fishers. I have tried many. Also like the Nuggett Busters Very Loud!!!!!!!! Any of the forementioned are great. Now I wear hearing aids and don't need them with the Nuggett Busters. And with the backbones I can wear the aids with no issues. Feedback etc. Happy Hunting. Ps go to a dealer try them on you're machine there are major sound or rather tone differences. Best of luck 2014. C t

I agree on the Nugget Busters. Never seen the XP backbones. I look them up.

Does anyone make a good set of headphones that go behind the head? Seem like all the better ones are over-the-head.

Should say xp backphones. They're made by the same company that makes the dues. They fit behind you're head. And are very lightweight. XP. Back phones. HH. C t

SunRay Pro Golds for me. I have others, but if something happens to my SunRays, I'm buying another..... fast
The only time I don't use them is if I'm using my V3i because I got the wireless headphones for it, but the SunRay would be my go-2 if I didn't have the wireless.

That made the search MUCH easier. They are very similar to the sport 'phones I like to use, just wireless. There is another headphone that goes by the same name that uses bluetooth.
Then I found bluetooth transmitters on fleabay. And bluetooth headphones. So it looks like that may be an option too.

I have no idea if bluetooth gear will work with a F70. But it seems to be a wortwhile experiment. If it doesn't work, one of my boys will gladly latch onto the transmitter/headphone combo.

Seems the Killer B and Sun Ray contingent have spoken. What, no Gray Ghost fans? I considered the Uniprobe 'phones, but just couldn't justify the cost. If anything fails, you are out 2 devices.

WARNING Will Robinson WARNING!!!!

I have read a couple posts where it has been stated that blue tooth doesn't work well and encounters lag time as well. Check into further unless that alternative usage is for real.
