Cutting the wave noise down on the Excalibur

Was at some of the Gulf Beaches around Sarasota and St. Pete. Conditions were pretty poor with wind and waves.

Temps were around 72, sunny with water temp in the low to mid 60's. Almost no one in the water and not many bikinis out.

I was having problems with hearing anything due to the high wind and wave action so I tried the electrical tape over the drain holes on the stock Excalibur II yellow Koss headphones and I was amazed how well the tape stopped so much of the noise.

Anyone have any other recommendations as to improving the stock Excalibur II Koss headphone in regards to exterior noise reduction?

Hard to believe how much noise there is on a beach on a windy wavey day.

Oh yeah....found just a few clads and the water was just too rough to go where the good stuff is. Hopefully the waves will be less this coming week.

Well I dont know what the Koss earphones are like but the Blue ones on the early Excals (Unisafe Signature II) are crap. You cannot hear a thing hardly if the wind is more than a breeze. very frustrating trying to hear signals in wind especially waves crashing etc. I always tape the holes up. You only need them open if you have your head under water. Still cant hear jack with them taped up though.

hummm well i guess you just have to get used to the noise we have here at the beach, mine work just fine even with the wind we had today..i had no problems at all..
just adjust threshold a bit and im sure theyll be just fine..imho..

I have the blue phones and have to turn the volume all the way up if its blowing 10 to 15 or above to hear anything.

Yes, closing up the 4 drain holes does help reduce noise. But for more comfort and noise reduction you can add the gel seal ear pads

Trust me when I say those beaches have been pretty well cleaned out and or sanded in and until the water warms up (even the snowbirds won't go in yet) the pickin's will be slim to none in the surf and if U go in watch the RIP

Has anyone tried the gel pads on the Blue headphones? Which pads? That solution would make sense to me. I've read where some have glued soft leather to their land phones but of course that wouldn't work in the surf. MMMmmm maybe glue on some gel strips.... Maybe just add a set of underwater Gray Ghosts ( has anyone done that?) might work.

I find my Blue Phones are not a very comfy fit either, and no my ears aren't that too big. They just dont keep enough external noise out and yes I run my volume at full or near otherwise in wind you wouldn't hear any signals. Its just so hard in wind roar to pick out subtle changes in threshold which may indicate a deep target etc.

All you do is pull your old earpads off then remove the hard plastic from the gel pads line them up and stick them on.
