I hear cz20 is not very good in freshwater, is this so. Since I will be doing mostly land, with some fresh water detecting I am not sure on purchasing the cz20 or not.
All input appreciated.

and love it. Some folks don't like the fact that it's locked in the Salt Mode, and looses some sensitivity to the smaller gold targets, like earrings and chains. I'm not to worried about finding those; I want the gold rings.

Allen,
Thank you for your response.
I consider myself a novice, with a 15 year old machine. My kids are older and I am now having a little more time to devout to this fun hobby.
Would like to get a new machine and the Cz-20 is atop my list.
Are you happy with the Cz-20 on land?
Does the weight of the machine bother you?
What size coil do you use?
Do you loose alot of sensitivity in fresh water or just a little, as I would like to find the gold chains as well.
Do you have any land or fresh water tips?
Thank you again.
Jeff

Are you happy with the Cz-20 on land? I use a CZ-5 on land. I've used the 20 a couple of times on land, in a heavy rain, but wasn't comfortable with muddy, grungy hands getting grit and grime everywhere.
Does the weight of the machine bother you? In the water, you won't notice the weight, just the drag from the water resistance. On land, it's really heavy. Of course, I hipmount both on land and in the water.
What size coil do you use? Most of my beaches are clean, so I use the 10.5" coil for area coverage.
Do you loose alot of sensitivity in fresh water or just a little, as I would like to find the gold chains as well.I've never used my 20 in saltwater, so I've never experienced the really extreme depths (quarters at 13", etc.). I'm experiencing pretty much the same sensitivity levels in the water as on land with my CZ-5, since I hunt in the Salt mode on land as well, to help with the iron mineralization.
Do you have any land or fresh water tips? In the water, I dig ALL targets that give any tone higher than Iron, and Iron/mid-tone/high-tone bouncers. For land tips, you might want to visit Mike's CZ page, which I seem to have lost the link to.

Hi Jeff,
I have a cz-20 and use it all the time in fresh water I have found about 12 rings, gold and silver. I use it scuba diving and in chest deep water at the surf at the beach. I hip mount it on land and I can go for hours with it compared to my DFX which is much heaver. I metal detect about 4 times a week. I also use it on land in the parks, school yards and old houses and farms. I love the CZ. I would recommend it. I have owned it for about 3 years now and have not had a problem with it yet. good luck
John

Hi John
Appreciate your input.
Are you happy with the 20 as a good land machine, as most of my hunting will be on land.
What size coil do you use?
Do you get good depth on land?
Thanks Jeff

The CZ line -- and seeing first hand how the CZs performed on dry land -- was exactly why I never gave Fisher a thought until their new detectors (partiularly the CoinStrike) came out.
On dry land over lots of little iron (such as iron nails and stuff), the CZs sound like a bowl of Rice Krispies -- lots of snap, crackle, pop in the headphones. On wet-sand beaches (especially salt water) and places like the desert where mineralization is very high, the CZs are among the king of the hill. Other than that, IMO, they're just noisy little buggers where there's a lot of old iron trash. If you've got the cash for a CZ, do yourself a favor and look at the new Fishers such as the Excel, the CoinStrike, or even the 3D.
Again, just my personal opinion.

WHICH EVER UNIT YOU BUY GO WITH THE LARGE COIL AS YOU CAN ALWAYS TURN DOWN THE SENS.;IF YOU OPT FOR THE SMALLER COIL THE ONLY WAY TO UPGRADE IS TO SEND IT TO THE FACTORY, & CAN BE EXPENSIVE.

I have been out of town and just now getting back to the forum. I want to thank all of you for your tips and suggestions.
I tried a friend of mines Cz5 a few days ago and was very impressed. It was the first time I used a Cz series machine, or Fisher for that matter. I am definitly going to purchase a Fisher, seems like a very quality product.
Does anyone have any thoughts on the Cz-3d?
Thank you all again.
Jeff

Now thats what I'm talkin'bout.
