Dedicated or desperate???

With high gas prices and the wife had to take the kid to work with our only van...I had to go detecting.

I realized about half way to my usual hunting spot about a mile away that I forgot my small shovel for digging. Just had the small digger to work with.
Life might have been better if I had put more air in the front tire...but I wanted to go detecting...not repair a bicycle.

After spending a few minutes detecting, some character who lives in a nearby house brought his rotweiler out to the field and started yelling. Wasted his breath since I had headphones on and having a Doberman...I was not intimidated by him or his dog.

So for the short time I was out I can't say I found any coins (usually I score some Wheats if nothing else), no rings or other jewelry. Did get some foil and a few pulltabs. Only 'goodies' were these items:

Never been fond of live ammunition. Cases like this make me glad I have the X-1 probe.

OK that was it for the detecting. Trip home was not something I looked forward to as I live on a hill - 100 feet about lake level...no one rides their bikes up this hill. I lucked out. The wife dropped the kid off at work and I was able to load the bike and equipment bag in the van so I could ride up the hill - in the van.

Maybe next time I will score something a little more interesting.

Hope you all got out today.

Consider your bicycle as additional hunting gear. You will be able to travel long distance that most detectorist wouldn't bother going because it's inaccessible by auto and too far to walk.

Even if I didn't find much I feel good that I could help lighten your load.

Hey Bryce check this song out...I love it. Might make the load of the day a bit lighter as well.

She plays the QChord.

If you are an Allison Krauss / Dolly Parton fan, you are certainly going
to enjoy these original songs from our fellow QChord group member Kelly
Williams. Inspirational vocals, accompanied by QChord.

Brings tears of love to my eyes.

May her voice and music bless you as it does me.

I used to do this a good bit when I first started detecting as a teenager.

It worked out pretty well for the most part, but it's all fun and games until you crash from trying to pedal and hold a detector at the same time. (which for the most part isn't that hard, but it only takes that one time to ruin your day)

I was headed down a small hill where the sidewalk curved around a tree and then the opposite way around another tree.
Usually handled it with no problem but that time I didn't make the second curve and hit that tree head on. (good 2-3 foot diameter oak at a good 15mph.)

Well, next thing I knew I was on the ground 10-15 feet away in a world of hurt. Managed not to break anything, but got a couple prett good cuts, one of which I still have a good scar from. And managed to severely damage the case of the detector, which flew even further.

That does not sound good....wife wants me to sell my motorcycle because I am on blood thinners. If she reads this I'll be losing a bicycle and wrapped in bubble wrap.

Appreciate the info...it is a warning I will heed. Thanks.
