Deep on deep off:clapping:

did quite well. I didn't notice any conflict caused by the settings and found a lot of nice coins.
When I turned them both off though...is when I noticed how much more crisp the sounds were and how much deeper I started to find silver.
I'm not saying I went t ton deeper...but I was getting just enough difference to hit stuff I had missed before...and a lot of it.

It just seemed with them both off that I had the best combination of depth...and target ID.

I didn't notice the conflict of running both settings ON until I had hunted with them both OFF for a few weeks.

There was just a noticeable difference in the signal quality...and what my ears heard.

All of this is just my own personal observation..and we all have different preferences.

In other words...theres' nothing wrong with running both ON if it's working for you.

First let me say that I am in no way going against what Bryce and the other experienced Explorer users suggest. I use an XS with deep on fast off gain 10 and sensitivity as high as I can go. I mostly relic hunt in the woods with IM at 15. I tried switching deep to off on several berely audible targets this past weekend to test out this setting. When I passed over these targets with deep off I could no longer hear it or it would sound much worse. This is the opposite of what many are suggesting. Why is that? Is there a difference between Explorer models? Does ground conditions affect this, IM settings? Maybe the type of metal under the coil? All 4 of the signals I tried this on were keepers. 3 were 58 ca. minies and the other was an eagle general service button. I will test this again but for now I swear that here in this part of Virginia where the ground is ideal deep on works better.

Just my opinion.

Marc

There is no right or wrong way...only the way that works best for each of us....our personal preferences...and our soil conditions.
