Deep On - Deep Off Test Garden Data

Hi there DGC,

I spent some time doing in the field testing with these settings last year with my E-trac. Based on my findings, I hunt with DEEP = ON and FAST = OFF most of the time.

There are time when I find it advantageous to change my settings to DEEP = OFF and FAST = ON, primarily when I want to go over an area that I've already covered that might get me a few coins that I've missed using my regular settings.

Now I can hear some of you already, " YOU ARE MISSING A LOT OF COINS WITH THOSE SETTINGS". I don't think so, I am finding DEEP coins that others have missed on a regular basis and I am finding coins at all depths that are co-located with rusty nails, pull tabs, foil and other garbage.

When I find a deep target, I still go in and change a few things around, Sensitivity, Deep, Fast, and so forth to see how the audio and visual respond. And after doing this, I am still using DEEP = On and FAST = Off.

I do not like using Auto Sensitivity and prefer adjusting my Sensitivity level manually according to the detectors response to the site. It is fairly easy to see where the 'breaking' points are for depth doing it this way.

Of course, you must have confidence in YOUR settings when you hunt and I would suggest that you take your experimenting to the field where the targets are 'real' and in context.

Best of luck. If you decide to move your experiments to the field, I will be watching to see what you come up with.

Rich thanks very much for the link to that thread! You had some excellent in field observations posted there. Needless to say, my data, over a couple of buried targets, should definitely not be viewed as definitive in terms of best target settings. What I liked about your thread was the data related to actual undug targets at various detector settings. It appears to me, from your data, that there isn't a great deal of difference in terms of tonal quality between the Deep Off / Deep On settings. On deep targets, however, it appears that Fast On might degrade tonal quality. Based on what I read in that thread, I'm going to spend some time over my targets while only concentrating on tonal quality. Thanks again for some great info.
