Thought I would ask the experts..

Thanks

I have the 6" EXcelerator EQ2 Pro DD Search Coil and I am amazed at the depth. 8" dime no problems.

Agree with that.----The Sunray 5" (X-5) is a very good small coil also and deep for its size.-----Those two mentioned coils are the ones I use in small coils on my Etrac in heavy trash.-------Del----------P.S. I ain't no expert!

Thanks for the replies!

I use the 5 inch EXcelerator EQ2 Pro DD Search Coil and the air test is only 4 inches on a coin. Is this about right?

MLs perform poorly in the air. Tests need to be performed in a known test bed.

I've been using the Excelerator 4.5"x7" DD coil and it does very well. I've dug coins at 6" plus and a civil war bullet close to 12" I've also ignored plenty of iron with the depth sensor maxed at 12" so I know it can read that deep.

If your target is a foot or less and under this coil I feel pretty confident you will hear it.

I have a 6" Excelerator Coil - it's great - I use it at least 95% of the time now - great on junk metal sites - goes deep - light weight and it's really great for getting into tight spots.

Here's a link to Bryce's field tests on a lot of different coils - tons of great info. here ! >>> http://www.findmall.com/read.php?19,1055627

Good luck !

I have the Sunray X-5. I'm no expert but just today 8in on a mercury, and hit a wheat at 9 just a few weeks ago. There was no doubt what it was hitting the numbers were spot on. And there is definitely a huge difference in it and the stock DD. We tested it and ran thru a new yard and swept the coils the same speed. The DD missed a couple of targets cause when we switched back and forth the X-5 was hitting the mark. Now I marked the targets the X-5 hit and with the Stock coil I had to really slow down and go in at different angles to hit it and honestly couldn't lock down on the target. Just my observation from just today. GfH

Text book example of a masked target showing the advantages of a small coil.

6" Excelerator just amazed me. This coil functioned equally well on both the Explorers and E-Trac for me.

All the small coils I have used and tested have been excellent coils....5" Sunray...4.5 x 7 Excelerator as well are super snipers.

What I remember most about the 6" Excelerator though is that it is very deep.

thanks for the replies!!! Is going slow the answer, too?

I notice that when I strap on the small coil I really slow down, even more than normal. I notice that I spend a lot more time in the yard. Which usually doubles my targets... Slow way down, then when you do slow down some more. A lot of people say why should you have to slow down so much with that expensive machine. Usually they are saying that while your digging a target that everyone else missed. lol

The 6X8 is a great coil been running it in nastest trash I can find, finding great coins to 9 inches only problem is, it is not 6 inch or less coil about 7 1/2 inches down the center strip.
