Defective Makro?

I have been trying to unlock the secrets of the makro racer but I am not sure if mine is working correctly I tried air test while laying it straight on a table with a quarter and I do not get target ID on two tone unless the quarter is like 3 inches away from coil . ...but I will get a tone farther away but no target ID does anyone know what im doing wrong?

Which coil? Are you inside with heavy emi?

Are your batteries full strength?----Suggestion would be: Go outside in a metal free zone---make sure your coil connector is aligned & tight---set disc (I.D. filter) on 10---set sensitivity on around 70 ---perform a ground balance & try testing targets again.----There's always a possibility that you have a bad coil.----Let us know your results doing this.-----Oh yeah, try different coil(s) also if you have them & see what the results are.

yeah its connected correctly it may be that im inside the house testing and im getting interference I was able to do air tests and get depth of 8-9 inches some times 10 and still get target id but anything past that is broken up....

yeah tracking is off I don't know but for some reason it sounds like the tone is breaking of it pieces not solid unless the object is 3 inches away from coil.

Do you have a test garden? I have found that some of my units air test nothing like what they can hit in the test garden. These items have been in the ground sense 2004. At the beginning of the year I added some deeper for the V5 along with some iron/target combos.

Take it outside like earlier mentioned and you should be a lot better off than inside...a ton of bad JUJU going on in there for the unit.


Tip of the day.....MAKE A LAYOUT MAP of your garden, getting older plays havoc on "what did I put right there".

Walk outside with the detector and test it in the air...see if it does not do a WHOLE LOT BETTER..

There could be a multitude of problems in the house..

Turn unit on..DONT turn tracking on..

just by turning it on youll be pretty much set to go ...if its chattery adjsut freq then if its still chattery adjust Sens..

It should airtest a quarter at an easy 10 inches just turning it on and going outside ....

Do you have another coil to try if it still is not going past 3 inches outside?

I Think I got it to work correctly.. im not sure but I was able to find my first find with makro racer

the problem was Inside tests don't work like outside in the field I think I was getting interference inside.

You aren't gonna get a perfect signal at that depth.
