Delta v. Omega

If you live in an area that has very mild soil and a ground balance feature is not necessary, is there much of a difference between the Delta and the Omega?

Huge difference. Go through and look at posts on both models. The delta is very accurate but the omega is more so.Plus the omega is definitely deeper. JMO HH!!!

Metal detector with fixed ground balance like the Delta are internal set to run over very bad soil. So if you have mild soil you gain even more having ground balance that can be adjusted to the mild ground. The Omega is the Teknetics that offers best control over the ground condition with ground error, Fe3O4 and ground phase always displayed.
If you have the money to buy an Omega do it!

Yep! However, the Gamma doesn't give up much to the Omega and cost less.

To stay in just the Teknetics model line-up why not the Delta Vs Gamma? Those two come with the same rod/housing package and the same 8" search coil. They are also closer in price and, depending upon your reason for comparison, might 'fit' the competitive niche to address your two questions. Also, I find many questions brought up on various forums don't really ask for a specific answer and many, or most, could only get a 'Yes' or 'No' or 'Maybe' or 'Sometimes' reply.

In this case you specified in the subject line only two models (Delta and Omega) as a reference for this questions, however, many readers might just apply the answer, about a Preset GB Delta Vs an adjusted GB Omega, to any make or model in those two categories. That could be, or would be, an error to make.

Even if a person lives in an area with "very mild soil" that doesn't mean Ground Balance is not necessary Heck, most people don't have a clue if the ground mineralization levels in their general area are mild, moderate, or severe, or perhaps widely variable over a short distance. So, breaking your long-line question in half, let me rephrase this and give an answer I feel is more appropriate:

Rephrased: If you live in an area that has very mild soil, is a ground balance feature necessary?​

NO, it is not. That is, No, not if the selected search mode has a functional Ground Balance setting preset for that model's operation, over that level of ground mineralization. YES, it might be, because a preset setting could be too high or too low for peak performance over that level of ground mineralization.

You also have to consider these four things, should you be considering ANY make or model including a Delta or Omega.:

1.. Some makes and models have a factory preset GB setting, or a manually adjusted GB setting, that ONLY affects the All Metal mode and not the Discriminate mode. There are some models on the market that have an internal GB setting that is totally in circuitry and there is no internal trimmer to adjust anything! One example was the original Minelab X-Terra 30. Some models have an internal trimmer that might only adjust the GB reference for the motion Discriminate mode, but have an external manual GB control for the All Metal mode only, and an example here is the Tesoro Cort

If anyone has the time to do so, I would recommend reading every one of Monte's posts. It may be a lot of reading since there are over 4000 of them, but the answers to just about every questions asked is there. You will never say that it is a waste of time. You can also search for a specific model with his name in the author spot. Untold answers to the universe lie there
