Detech 13

I was able to get a hold of a Detech 13

I like to get that coil for my Sov GT and see if it picks up on small gold rings and thin gold chains let us know how well it,s depth is if you use it in wet sand . Good luck tomorrow Jim

I will, I set up this rig up strictly for the beach!

That's a Hot looking setup. lots of nice detail Mods....She's a real hunting machine now.

I'm very envious of you having that coil. Read some good info on it in the Explorer forum. From the sound of what's been said so far it is at least as deep as the 12x10 but am waiting to hear if it's any deeper. Might not even be deeper in my soil because I found the 15x12 was soaking in too much ground stew in my soil and got less depth than the stock 10" coil or the 12x10, which is deeper than stock 10". Very stable coil, though, just like the 12x10....but at least on coin sized targets it only got about 8 to maybe 9" for me max, and I had to lower sensitivity to get best ID at those depths...so that tells me it was running too hot at higher ones and seeing too much soil. But, have read others get more depth with it in their soil. Not sure I've read that it does for dime sized coins though. Anyway, I feel a 12 or maybe 13" coil is about max size to show increased depth in my soil. The 12x10 probably has better separation than the 13" coil, but I hear good and unique things about the 13" Ultimate coil's ability to see stuff in iron over a conventional round DD coil.

Hey, most importantly where did you get that coil??? Heard Kellyco was going to carry Sovereign version by mid May. Don't know if they have it yet? Far as I know the Ebay seller won't ship to US.

OH I see where you got it. I checked the classified forum and see you bought it off the guy who was selling it because he built his own copy of it for his machine. Darn, was hoping Kellyco had them in by now. Think I'll surf their site to see if they've got them yet and also shoot JW a PM if I can't find it to see if he's had any word on when they are coming. If I find out anything I'll post it.

Please keep us updated on how you like that coil. Have you used a 12x10? If so, how does the Ultimate compare to it in terms of depth and separation?

heya stumppass, any updates on the performance of the coil at the beach? inquiring minds would love to know!

hardwire in the coil? Think I've got a broken coil wire on mine and need to fix it, just don't know if I should do it myself, have done soldering jobs but sure don't want to mess things up. thanks

So far so good, it's not crazy about the salt water but it's manageable, As for the drag, it's not bad at all it seems to be better without the coil cover on, I may silicone it on or epoxy the coil I haven't decided yet.

I really set this rig up for the wet sand and beach as I prefer the smaller coils for in the water, for me the 8" and 10" respectively seems to work best in fact I find myself using the 8" most of all.

If you are not comfortable disassembling the pod or using a soldering iron then I would defer the job to someone who is. Search on hear for OBN he has plenty of good information and videos on what needs to be done for a successful mod, it really isn't that bad.

If you know how to use solder (and flux of course to prep it) it's an easy job. Biggest problem is you need to heat shrink each wire by it's self, and then heat shrink the entire thing to the connector, which all in all isn't a big deal. Heat shrink is easy to get at Radio Shack, and if you don't have a heat gun you can use a lighter or a candle to shrink it. Just make sure to use an ohm meter and test both ends of each pin to make sure there is no break in the pins. I found several bad pins on my SEF coil when I was fixing a short from the previous owner. I didn't have another plug laying around, so I headed up to radio shack and found a plug with the same pins in it, then knocked them out of the old plug with a finishing nail and hammer and replaced them.

Here's a new thread in the Explorer forum about this coil, and at the end of this thread I posted a few links to other field reviews of the coil by Explorer and Etrac guys thus far of this coil. Everybody seems to like it...
