Detected down in Lansing last night....

Sherry hasn't seen her friends from the church down there in a long time so went to visit with them at the mall. Gave Casey a chance to be with her best friend down there to shop and talk at the mall and time for me to metal detect in between rain drops.

I hit a small playground where I found this very heavy 14K necklace (and it isn't brokem - must have fallen out of a pocket as the clas was still connected and in one piece):

Nice design to it:

Below shows all the finds from the small playground and the elementary school. The necklace, spoon, part of a toy car, the dime, and a couple pennies came from the small playground in a housing area. The rest were found at the school.

Not often I find a button - let alone two of the same design - think this is a first.

I had to stop using the detector. Got to the point I was using the backlight on the screen of the Minelab, and using the pinpointer to locate the item which I couldn't see....was feeling for it in the dark. Guess I should have a headlight in my bag instead of home. But a great time and the American Flag pin made me think that this might be a school that tells its students to be proud Americans and remember 9/11/2002. Hope you all had a good day detecting.

You sure aced out at that site !! With the price of gold way up now that's a pretty hefty find, Steve in so az

I asked if he could give me an idea of how much it is worth. His reply was "Alot if it were gold."

He said that even though it is marked 14k he said a lot of unscrupulous people are making money off people who don't know better. He said that things like this are 'quick sale' items. He said suppose you're in a bar and someone says he needs money and offers you this very nice looking necklace in exchange for some money or as collateral for a small loan of a hundred bucks or whatever. You see it is marked 14k and that it is probably worth a lot more. So you give him cash, you get the necklace and never hear from him again. Then ya find out it isn't gold or all gold. Maybe gold plate.

I guess this is really what they call 'fool's gold' eh? Still looks pretty and I might be able to sell it but not as gold but instead costume type jewelry. Be careful when you buy stuff - con artists are still alive and doing well off the ignorance of others.

...how trust worthy is this jeweler?

don't know him personally. Don't know if he is a Christian or not. I've coverted a few gold rings to $$$ and guess I got a decent price for the items. (At least God saw to it that what I got covered the bills I needed to pay at the time).

I guess since I didn't buy the items and then had to sell em for a loss I can't complain. Does go to show though that detectors can sometimes pay for themselves...in a round about way.
