Did you buy anything yet?

Those newer coins sure add up after a year of hunting. Have you bought anything with the newer coins you found in 2009? Maybe you sold one or some of your finds and made even more money. Did you buy anything of interest you'd like to share with us? Got any plans to buy something? C'mon now. Whatcha gonna do with all that cash?

Here's my little adventure. I drove to the supermarket and poured over $200 worth of newer coins found in 2009 into one of those Coin Star machines. It accepted all of the coins except for about $10 worth. I cashed in the voucher and deposited the money in the bank. When I later looked through the rejected change I saw the reeded edge of a silver dime. It turned out to be a 1947d Rosie I must have thrown it in there by mistake. I checked the rest of the rejected change and found another silver dime - a 1964d Rosie. Cool! I've got what's left of the $10 dollars in change in a dish. I've been using it to buy coffee every morning out of the machine at work. It accepts them just fine. I then ordered a 6x8 SEF Butterfly coil which I received a few days ago. I can't wait to try it out in some of the sites I've hunted hard.

Smart man! I love how the change adds up for a new this or that. I usually spend the money I make detecting buying new detectors and accessories. I truly think its one of the few self sustaining hobbies out there.

well i never get to save my change up. my wife hits it and its gone lol.
back when i was out on medical leave for 7 months i was finding around $15. a night at local schools and that money paid for gas which was a big help cause i was on railraod benifits which was half my normal pay.

Every year or so, I put it throught the local bank machine(it is free of fees).

The past few times it has been around $1000. Then I go coin hunting........

At a few local coin dealers. I normally look for the high value coins, gold, and low mintage.

About 10 years ago i started that. I now have 1861 20$ MS65, 1921 20$ MS67, A few 10$, 5$ and the nice part.

They are all about worth about 4 times what I paid for them.

I drive all over the country and bury it.

...who claims he scatters all his zinc Lincolns at parks that are 'cleaned out'

i just took his 'boast' at face value and walked away without comment.

the 6x8 S.E.F. coil is a great trade for all that crusty clad. i got the 6x8 & the 10x12 that way last year.

i don't find nearly as much clad since i came over to the dark side (but i don't pass it up, either) :spin:

Mid way through last season added this half to my 53 set,, Also a 1913 buffalo..

I turn my clad into silver coins that I am missing in my collections. It adds up to several hundred dollars a couple times a year. I would love to find a 1914 d or 1909 s DVD penny but the chances of that are slim to none. So I will get the 14d this year and the 09s when I find one I like. Here in San Diego my oldest find is an 1892 IH, and yes I am happy with that one! It beats just hanging on to the clad and watching it devalue 3% a year! Terry

I bought an 1957 Gravely Model L walk behind tractor and several attachments. I restored the tractor and will do the same to the attachments. Just an other hobby to keep me busy while the ground is frozen.

I need to clarify something in my original post. I poured over $200 worth of newer coins into the Coin Star machine, but only about $80 (give or take a few bucks) was from detecting finds. The rest was pocket change I threw in a large plastic jar over the past year. The 6x8 sef coil cost $149.95 (not counting shipping). $80 dollars of the cost was paid for with finds. The rest was paid for with some of the pocket change I saved and cashed in with my finds.

Hey Dan, Whats up..Kellyco was giving free shipping to forum members, I dont know if they are still doing it, but they shipped my sef coil to me for free this summer, you just had to call and tell them you were a forum member, or in an email, I think. Anyway its worth a try next time, save a few bucks. HH

I've got about 20 years worth of finds that I have yet to cash in. Its a quirk in my personality I suppose as I like looking at the pile that keeps growing. I have often wondered how much is there. I've never bothered to count it, some years I wasn't out much to busy with career, and kids, and other obligations, and other years
I was able to sneak in a few extra outings. All my rings, (gold and silver) I separated out with the thought that someday I might cash them in, but it hasn't been very high on my priority list. I like the idea of cashing it in for a few accessories, but another thought I've had is donating the cash to a favorite charity in particular to a charity that puts in water wells for poor communities. I travel a lot overseas and clean drinking water is rare in some parts of the world, these guys at this site have a very unique contribution to this effort: http://www.hydromissions.com/

I haven't rolled my clad yet but someday I will, but I don't know what I will buy with it. Maybe some nice headphones or a new pinpointer.

I just throw all my pocket change in a can when I get home and I used to make a point to try to not spend change, only paper money. Then once a year i'd buy a toy. Now I have two grand daughters and I put it all in savings for them. I have bags of coins from detecting that I have not cleaned. I bought a tumbler for it but haven't set it up yet... I have a small garage in this house and we still aren't quite settled, but getting there.I can't wait to clean it all and see how much I have. I'm sure it's well over 500 bucks. Then maybe i'll get off my duff and sell a detector and a Les Paul and a few amps and pedals I no longer use. The market is just so soft right now...
