Digging the deep, iffy.

I got a deep signal yesterday (36-37). It repeated in one direction but was inconsistent in another. Dug up a 1944 wheatie at 7 inches. My DFX would never have given a signal on that coin.

I've dug Indian Head pennies at 9 inches with iffy signal. bouncing all over, but every once in a while it will give me that IH number. I always look for these kind of deep signals.
You can't rely on ID when it's a deep target. if it's deep & doesn't have that iron sound I dig it every time

I know you do, MM. That's where I got the idea from.. ;) You and the other folks here are good teachers.

glad I could help. I'm always trying to learn something new about the Safari. It's a great machine. Don't think I could ever part with it. Also if you ever get that -10 iron reading & it does not sound like iron dig it. I found a couple IH's that were with iron in the hole. that gave me that crazy signal. Another thing I learned from Chicago Ron about the ML with FBS is if you ever digging a target & you recheck the hole & the target is no longer there, dig another handful of dirt. He said the ML's don't like air between the coil & the target. & you lose the signal. this has happened to me many times. since I heard this tip from Chicago Ron I have found those targets that mysteriously disappear. they are in the next shovel of dirt.

Thanks for the tips. Interesting about the ML not liking air. DFX does the same thing.

Interesting info; being shared here! The other day, I was getting an interesting signal 34 thru 39. Did not know what to make of it other than figuring it had to be coins, so in digging down, I found a coin spill with several newer coins all together in the same hole. We don't get too many older coins here like I.H.'s but I always dig if it's in the 35-39 range thinking that it's another coin spill. Also, a reading like that could be a piece of jewellery and possibly silver).
M.M. I would agree about the air between the coil 'killing' a signal. I don't know why that is but that's been my experience as well. If your detector gives you a signal one time, there has to be a trash or treasure target in the dirt. I spent a good amount of time the other day wondering where a target went and eventually found a teeny-tiny metal 'wheel' about 1/8th of an inch in dia;. It was smaller than a wheel off an old lighter but my Safari told me something was underground at that spot!!!

That's absolutely good post and I wish you all the best!!
