Do you reckon you miss anything

if you descriminate out ring pulls? I 'm getting fed up of digging them up!!

......absolutely!!
Discriminate ringpulls at your peril dude!
We all hate digging these. You guys dig more of these than we do in the UK but we still dig 'em.
You will miss jewelry otherwise. Until a manufacturer comes up with a failsafe method of identifying them, we have to persevere!!!

Gaz.

You miss good targets with no disc, a little disc, a lot of disc, and with a notch. You miss things because of the direction you are walking, because the ground it too fry or too wet, because of a powerline, a cellphone, a cell tower, sunspots, etc, etc, etc... everyone misses things everytime

BUT... if you want to miss even more good stuff, use more disc or notch something out... then you'll miss more good targets.

You also miss things if you hunt a place with one machine. I have one site that was pretty near virgin. Some folks had searched one part of it looking for a lost diamond ring... they dug some minnies etc, but no ring. I have hunted it for well over 100 hours, maybe over 200 hours.. over several years, with multiple machines... Istill make good finds, not as many, but I still make them.

Bottom line, YES... notch out pulltabs and you will leave very good targets. Sometimes a square tab is going to read like a nickel no matter what you do, expecially if it is folded over... or it could be a gold ring.

So, I think you should notch them out. Especially if you hunt around here!!! :poke:

if your going to be hunting a place more than once notch them out a day or two for a pulltab vacation then after a hunt or two turn them back on. i do that alot. it helps me focus on silver and copper for a couple days then i hit the low tones for a few days.
then i find a new place to hunt and do it all over again.

I have just accepted them as part of the deal. The area of beach we are working right now is no bigger than a dozen car parking spaces and week after week it keeps giving up new stuff. The Junk ratio doesnt seem to go down either and after the last couple of light jewelry peices we picked up. We are thinking more about dropping discrim than upping it.

Now that's a good idea, amazing what small things like that people do that just makes total sense. Good tip!

A perfect example is the fact that I have gone over the same 20' X 40' patch of grass for the last three consecutive days and each day I have pulled B/T 20 & 30 coins plus four pieces of jewelry, albeit junk jewelry save one piece. The only difference was that day one was dry, day two it rained and day three it began to dry out again so I suspect the weather can have alot to do with the quality & quantity of signals we get. At the rate I'm going in this one park, they might start charging me rent. HH all, Nampa 23

Here's a scary story .Last Sunday morning while searching my favorite beach I received a solid 12/15 target and we all know what that means...well this time it meant a 10.9 gram men's PLATINUM ring !The funny thing is that the night before I had calibrated about 50 gold objects and none had read from 12/11 to 12/17 . Goes to show you just never know .

I have went over areas that my hunting buddies have looked and pulled silver from the dirt. They have done the same to me. Alot depends on the direction you are hunting and the amount of moisture in the ground. TMAN...
