does anyone prefer manual over auto?

and if so, why? id be curious to know if running in manual will become the norm for me after i get more experience with the etrac.

well i am not experienced like some of these guys but here is my take on it i use auto plus 3 with alot of success over 300 finds in a 7 acre field and i do find very little falsing that is to say when the etrac tells me there is a find there is a find no messing now i have been using manual lately in two different ways one i use it as a magnifying glass to enhance a weak signal and yes a weakish sound will come through much louder in manual and help pinpoint it so you say to yourself well why not hunt in this mode all the time well i think it comes with practise as when hunting in manual i seem to get alot of falsing and digging deep for nothing more than a nail ect so i think it is a bit of a trade off i i defo have to do more work to perfect it and will be very interested in other peoples answers to this question because this is the way i would like to go if i could crack it thanks for bringing the subject up lets hope we can get some good answers

Prefer? In some some areas I have to use manual to get any depth as auto will give me only 3-6 so I have to use manual and try to bump up the sens as high as is workable. On easy hunts I use auto. The situation determines the use of manual or auto in most cases. HOWEVER if I am just out having a nice day hunting yes Auto does fine. But if I'm in a great spot and trying to max out the machine and clean out all the deep cool stuff then I will go over the ground first with auto then with manual. I am also trying other settings in these great spots to see if I can get more out of the machine. But like I say only in the really good spots do I go back over and over with different settings...most the time I start with auto on and give it a good look over.

good luck.

I only use auto when hunting for recent drops (Newer schools, tot lots, etc.). I've run into lots of good, clear signals in manual that didn't even make a peep in auto (Or auto plus 3).

so can i ask please if you were on auto sens plus3 and on the left hand scale it says 25 and plus 3 what would you run in manual and then when you dig in manual do you always find a good target????? as this is not what i am finding and i do need more practice as yes the depth i have noticed is far better than auto is it all about the more you use the better you get???????

wow....i have never seen mine drop below maybe 15 or so then right back up to 24....usually it runs around 24-28. the highest ive ever noticed it at is 31. im impressed with the fast response of the sensitivity on auto....i feel like i could be pushing it even more though. i really wish it had a "+5" option.

Auto sens is supposed to be optimized between multiple frequencies, so if you have an Auto sens at 24 on +3 that might be better than 30 on manual? You never know what the chip is doing as far as optimizing a particular frequency despite a lower auto sens average displaying.

I think I was seeing improvement on manual, but who knows what is best if your auto sens will only go to 8 because there is so much iron in my soil. One school of thought says to lower the auto sens to -2 or -3 and look among the trash, another says crank 'er up manually. What works for you'se guys?

So I use maual nearly all the time.

in iron you can find stuff faster with lower sens. and some targets, which with higher sens. you will not find, but with higher you can found too and deeper, but this is worth only in good spots, because its will eat your time.
auto or manual? basically mainlab dont say how auto sensitivity works-when detector decides to lower and raise sensitivity. so to say what is better very hard but I use exceptionally manual but all the time go up and down like with car accelerator.
