Had cosmic not cracked it out of the NCS holder he could have auctioned it off through Heritage, Bowers/Merena, Stacks or Teletrade (via an authorized coin dealer.) None of these firms would take the coin as-is, out of the ground, in the cinder-like condition first seen.
