DON"T USE NCS !!!

Had cosmic not cracked it out of the NCS holder he could have auctioned it off through Heritage, Bowers/Merena, Stacks or Teletrade (via an authorized coin dealer.) None of these firms would take the coin as-is, out of the ground, in the cinder-like condition first seen.

Don't forget that conservation removes any potentially active corrosion and prevents further degradation over time as a result of interaction with humidity and other pollutants in the air.

NCS did the best they could given the piece of crap sent them. And it's worth no less.

Now put it on EBay and prove me correct!

DID YOU EVEN READ THE FIRST AND FOURTH POST? IT WAS NEVER IN A SLAB AS I STATED BEFORE!!! It was sent to NCS to be "conserved" then was sent on to NGC for grading. Even though NCS knew NGC wouldn't be able to grade after they destroyed it. NGC sent it back in a body bag. anyone wondering its sent back with the paper in the flip saying not encapsulated not suitable for certification. it even has a serial number It was e detector find!!! The 4th post shows the coin right after it was dug,, (rinsed in the water fountain at the park) ( original post in the etrac forum).... IN the first post the pics showed it when it was sent in the last pictures show how their "conservation" destroyed it!!!
This was the first coin I have sent to them and guess what NEVER EVER AGAIN.. Could have used a grinder and would do a better job then NCs..
I'LL CLEAN IT MYSELF then send it into NGC

The coins that I have seen that were sent directly to the coin grading companies were encapsulated and given a grade with "environmental damage" in the description.
I always wondered what kind of job they did on cleaning coins...
Well now I guess I know.

You have little clue of what your talking about... I've bought and sold thousands of coins on Ebay over the past 12 years and I've seen other key date Indians bring about 50-75% of their value in the original green condition on Ebay. No serious collector would bid on it now in it's "RESTORED" condition other than some clueless newbie who doesn't care if it may be counterfeit or not. That doesn't set it's "value" any more than saying that every wad of used chewing gum stuck to the wall at a McDonalds drive-thru is worth $10,000 because one sold for that on Ebay. The point being made is not it's dollar value but it's sentimental value and eye appeal to the finder, which in nearly everyone's eyes here has suffered.

NCS GROSSLY mishandled that coin, plain and simple! It may look like a piece of crap to you, but I'm sure it was a priceless find of a lifetime in the eyes of the finder - and any bid it would receive would not come close to the loss of value it suffered physically and sentimentally. "Potentially active corrosion", or Verdigris, can be easily neutralized without disturbing it on a copper or bronze coin - any idiot with any experience in restoring and preserving antiquities knows that. Defending the NCS in this case makes you look like one of those clueless idiots.

Again, get a clue about the situation before spouting off nonsense regarding it. :clapping:

Just a update..NCS is going to refund the conservation fee.. ISN"T THAT JUST GREAT OF THEM !!!! Before sending them anything, might as well drop it in toliet bowl cleaner. wait a week and rinse grind on the sidewalk .... Thats about as good of a of job, as NCS !!!!!!!!!!!

If NCS were truly experts they should have been able to evaluate their services on the coin you sent to them and tell you what the outcome would be.
I am fairly sure this is not the first coin they did this to ... but If they did not know then they surely know now.

Yes, and I've bought and sold >1000 coins on eBay in the past 12 years and another 30 before that. You are ignorant if you really believe that a green coin is going to bring 50-70% of value.

Now get a clue:

This piece of crap, in it's original 'green' condition, sold on ebay this month for $325. It grades at least fine. The greysheet bid for a FINE is $1350 (December 10, 2010). That's 24%

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&hash=item33631440b6&item=220705603766&nma=true&pt=Coins_US_Individual&rt=nc&si=xny2YhYrj7qc8J9hXLLn9lPKPMg%253D#ht_504wt_1139

This one got $300 in a 18Apr2010 Teletrade auction. Again, another FINE coin for wear and looks cleaned. That's 22% of Greysheet bid, virtually the same value as the 'green' coin.

http://www.teletrade.com/coins/lot.asp?auction=2839&lot=1104

So y'all put your money where your mouth is. Put this coin in an Ebay auction within the next week, PM me and I'll put a $300 bid on it within 24 hours. Mike, you top that bid. See if it ever gets anywhere near 50%. Why you may own it for a steal!

Now you'll get an education...
