Double down pennies, some results

Well, there was a constant line of people cashing in their pennies. Where Ii was .I had 6.6 lbs that brought in $25.33. My brother scored $105 for his total. But there were many with heavier loads. I'm not really up on it but I hear that gold and silver have really jumped recently. Might be worth looking into. Is it true? I heard while in line that 2025 is the last year for the penny to be minted? That means that the lowly penny will slowly become rare And those who saved all the true copper pennies , may have something there some day. Trouble is everything has a due date, if you know what I mean. Well for now the Great Penny Rush is over. Maybe it will pop up in other parts of the country.

Local News this morning Giant Eagle stores took in 100 Million pennies. Paid out double in value with gift cards.. For many that's Thanksgiving meal.
Smart business move, Thats a million dollars that will be spent in their stores. As far as doubling the value, their mark up is so high they could have tripled it and still made a fortune.

I've got a 5 gallon water jug full of pennies, not sure how many are in but it's been catching pennies for the last 32 years.
It's so heavy I can't lift it, probably we'll over 100 pounds.
I'll wait until the price jumps to 5 cents for every penny, can't see it going backwards.

Ok, I wonder if someone took down say 7-8 pounds of wheats, how would they verify they were all Wheats? I mean their not going to flip every penny over to check are they?

Dancer, I don't think it would matter much, wheat memorial or zincoln they doubled face value by weight. I hung on to my dug wheaties, didn't have as much as I thought. After 10 years in the hobby I only have a little over 9 lbs. If I tumbled them it would probably be a lot less. Huh ? Went to Giant Eagle yesterday to get my turkey, forgot my gift card. Duhhmmy me

Might have to check this out, been saving the copper one, but not the zinc and when the zinc are cleaned and not all ate up then they go to the bank unless they are bent. those that are bad shape along with the clads the bank told me they would have to be sent in on my dollar if they are to be replaced. The wheats I have got have been sold to a coin shop depending on year, the better ones are kept. The copper pennies that are under 1982 are saved and have around $100 worth, some are from my change and bought the other haft I got from a guy that buy rolls of pennies from the bank and go though them and pick out the Wheaties, the IH and any rare coins in the winter. Some he takes to a different bank and cashes them in so he don't buy them back again. He does this with dime and quarters too and even halves also and did get a full roll of silver ones too..
I had thought about selling all my copper memorial pennies, but maybe I should keep them for a while yet. The Wheaties I have cleaned some and some clean up good and look like normal ones and some don't. Secret there is I use a vibrating tumbler and use aquarium gravel to get the dirt off for a little while with water, then rinsed and put back in with crushed walnuts shells for a couple hours and run clear water in the next batch for about 5 minutes and then lay them on a towel to air dry. got 5 cents apiece for those in the 40s and 50s and 6 cents for the 20s and 30s and more for the teens. If they quit making the pennies I will have to keep them for a while as I am sure the price will be going up..
