Just got back from the creek with some fresh pics of ducks and geese (canadian poopers). Yes Kelly, I did get closer. As a matter of fact, some restaurant dumped a load of cooked white rice in the park and the geese were getting their intestinal tract cleaned:clapping:. and it's about time too........nge
 
we have at the duck pond near our home. Did any of them act mean tempered, try to bite you or anything? Kelley (Texas) :)
 
The duck pond that I visit does not have the wild type ducks like the green headed ducks in your pictures. I see that you took a head picture of one of those long neck ducks. Kelley (Texas) :)
 
The long neckers are called Canadian Geese, the ones I call "poopers" That's all they do is eat grass and crap all over the place. the guano is about an inch in diameter and up to 3 inches long, it is green and dirty white in color, and camoflages very well in the grass. They are a protected beast, except during the short hunting season. We have so much of an over population of them that they are a health hazard! If you didn't see them before you detected where they have been, you could end up with at least 3 lbs. of their crap on your shoes, that stuff is more deadly than stepping in dog poop....nge
 
stayed around alright. But for every step they took, they pooped. They weren't so cute then. The dang things would even come to my bedroom door and peck on the glass, wanting me to come out and feed them. Then they would go for a swim in my POOL, even tho I had a nice pond for them to swim in. Finally, my sister in law caught them, and took them to her house many miles away. So now, when I see geese swimming on someone's pond so peacefully and even pretty, I think of the time I got these two and all the fertilizer they left every where! :lol:
 
It used to be that during our waterfowl hunting season, that we could take 1 goose and 4 mallards, then the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) decided that they were going to put a point system into effect on our waterfowl 100 points a day.....1 goose 50 pts..........1 Drake (male mallard) 25 points each, female mallard 40 points each. Ducks are much better eating and you could shoot more, so no one was shooting the "poopers" and now they are regretting it big time. They are polluting our Great Lakes, small ponds and other lakes. Creating a massive health hazard, so bad that the DNR closes some beaches and state parks because of all the crap. They have tried trapping them in nets and relocating them, ha ha that really worked good. They just flew right back. Now they have to hire hunters to please shoot them, no points on them now, but that is a special season only......nge
 
and bring the ducks for me to cook, and I like to eat them, but I couldnt kill one, they are just too pretty! I bet they did mess up the parks and stuff there tho. Just two geese could make a heck of a mess. I am going to try and take some photos of the ones that land on our pond frrom time to time. We are not far from the Arkansas River, and they pond hop from there to all the local farming ponds. They are really fun to watch. We built a floating raft and put it out in the middle of our pond. Put a roof over part of it. They even laid their eggs in the crate we provided for them. The some big big dogs went out and had a heyday tearing everything up that we has built for them! I just hated that! I will be posting some photos soon I hope.
